I United Press International LOS ANGELES — Actor Rod Steiger, the latest to becaughtupiii “Marvin-type” lawsuit, testified that the cost of his first two ma was so big he never would have married his third wife if she had&i agreed to renounce all future financial claims if the marriage broker It did, and she wants half his earnings, saying she was pressuredini signing the agreement just before the wedding without realizin she was doing. Steiger, 54, said he never would have married Sherry Nelson,4J,i horse race handicapper, if she had not signed the prenuptial ment “because of the unfortunate circumstances of my two previoi! marriages.” They were married in 1973 and Mrs. Steiger is claiming hJlk $600,000 a year she said he made during the marriage. But they had lived together for three years before the marriage a she is also claiming a share of his earnings during that period, daimit; a “Marvin-type agreement,” named for the legal precedent set inti* suit brought by actor Lee Marvin’s former mistress. Mrs. Steiger testified that she was not presented with thepropert rights renunciation until after invitations to their wedding had kes mailed and the ceremony was only a few days off. Steiger told her the agreement was only a formality, she said She complained that after her own attorney refused to handlelli matter, she was supplied an attorney, Louis Petrich, from afirmth also worked for Steiger’s film company.
