Swimmers — Divers Swimming, racing in a swim ming pool. One day it's men's, one day it's corps or the finals dual, Co-ree, Masters, simple diving, too. It’s the 1M swimming meet in the swimming pool. Men’s and women’s events will be the 200 yd. medley relay, 100 yd. free style, 50 yd. backstroke, 50 yd. breaststroke, 50 yd. but terfly, 50 yd. freestyle, 100 yd. in dividual medley, 200 yd. freestyle relay, and the 1 meter dive. Co-rec events include the 200 yd. medley relay and the 200 yd. freestyle relay. The master’s is 100 yd. freestyle for swimmers over age 35. The meets will he held in 4 ses sions. Answers: Judo Now that you have some in teresting facts for the next trivia contest you are in, the TAMU judo club invites you to come watch their practices and join their club. The judo club has been around for over 10 years and is currently ranked second in the state of Texas. The team is coached by three black-belt team members and con sists of 20 active members, 2 of which are girls. Competition is men’s and women’s divisions by weight class. Most tournaments are individual entries for trophies, but the team also competes in the Pre-collegiate and Collegiate State Championship tournaments. Judo is a year round sport which is good conditioning for the body with less body contact than Ka rate. Inexperienced recruits may only join through the beginning of October. Interested persons may contact Kim Freeman at 845-3148 or come by a practice session, Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays at 7:00 in Room 260 G.R.W. Refs Corner Clothes hinder may just be a new call in racquetball or hand ball. The IM staff requests that in dividuals not leave their clothes or valuables where other people can pick them up and walk off with them. Many valuables are lost, mainly by leaving them on the ledges out side of the courts. Take clothes, wallets, etc. inside the court and, when they interfere, make a spe- 1. cial hindrance call. Suggestions for your valuables are: Leave them at home or in your car. Sew an inside pocket into your sports clothes. Pin your keys to your shorts. Wear only what you wish to play in. 2. 3. 4. 5. This does dam age to grass and the surface. The campus police will ask you to leave, if you are found practicing on wet fields. Fields included are Penberthy IM Center, across the tracks on Welbom Road, and the fields in front of the campus along Main, Texas Avenue, and Univer- old baseball field from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, at 5:00 p.m. a practice session will be held. Equipment will be pro vided. Personal bats are subject to inspection. Don’t forget — down at the old ball field! Have you ever wished you could get in on the ground floor when a sport was just starting and grow with it? Now you have a chance. Women’s field hockey is one of A&M’s newest sport clubs having been organized in April, 1977. The team is always recruiting and in vites men to come practice with them. Field hockey is similar in set-up to soccer. It is played with hockey sticks and is a fast moving game. It is played to a time limit; the win ner being the team with the major ity of points. Games consist of 25 minute halves. In its second year of play, the team is experiencing scheduling conflicts. They have played two games so far, tying 1-1 and losing 0-2. It is one of the few recognized University teams in its area, and is a fall sport. Interested persons can contact the IM Office for informa tion. If you cross football and basket ball, what do you get? A hybrid known as flickerball. Flickerball is played by passing a football downfield trying to pass it through a hole in the goal. Entries open Monday, October 2 and close Tuesday, October 10. Play begins October 16 and schedules may be picked up at the mandatory team manager’s meet ing on Thursday, October 12 at 5:15 in Room 226 MSC. Divisions will be Corps, Fish, men’s dorm, women’s dorm, men’s indepen dent and women s independent. All-University champs will receive T-shirt awards. So get out there and pass. Arm To Arm Equipment Use The IM equipment is used by many people every day. Help us keep it in good condition by treat ing it carefully and reasonably. This gives more people use of it and can save you money. You are liable for damages to equipment. It’s the battle of the arms as con testants gear up for the annual IM arm wrestling tournament. Entrants must know their weight when they sign the entry form. Each contest will re quire each participants to lie stomach down facing their oppo nent. Divisions will be men’s 150 lbs. and under, men’s 151-175 lbs., men’s 175-200 lbs., men’s unli mited, women’s 150 lbs. and up, 125-149 lbs., and under 125 lbs.
