The Food and Drug Administra tion (FDA) ordered the recall yes- lerday and warned consumers the |ve crystals-resembling salt crystals isually found on pretzels-can burn :he tongue, mouth and throat. Brand names recalled included Pepperidge Farm’s Thin Sticks, Nugget, Tiny Twist, Dutch style. Cheese Twigs, Plain Gems and Cheese Gems; Billy’s Pretzels, Thin iPretzel, Tiny Thin Pretzels, Special Pretzels, Dutch Pretzels, Baldee- Pretzels, Thin Pretzel Stix, Gems and Cheese Flavor Gems; Snyder’s of Hanover Guest Quality brand Pretzel Nibblers, Special Pretzel and Pretzel Logs; Cain’s brand Tiny Twist Pretzels, Pretzel Stix, Pretzel Twists and Dutch Pretzels; Crouthamel s Prize brand Thin iPretzels.Tiny Thin Pretzels, Stick Pretzels and Dutch Style; and Dutch Aalley brand Pretzel Gems. Texas FINAL approval by the House is expected today involving a bill to give tax breaks to farmers and ranchers. Rep. Bill Sullivant, D-Gainesville, said his plan to tax farm and ranch land accord ing to productivity rather than market value will be sent to the Senate after expected House ap proval. AN ORDINANCE eliminat ing nude and topless masseuses in San Antonio’s massage par lors, was found constitutional yesterday, but an injunction is sued while the ordinance was being considered in court has de layed the requirement that each masseuse take a course in anatomy and physiology when she applies for a license. The or dinance also requires a white uniform. Owners of massage par lors are also appealing a re quirement that customers regis ter on each visit. Police are al ready enforcing the outlawing of nudity. ATTORNEYS defending oil millionaire T. Cullen Davis, have claimed misuse of the grand jury system. Davis is charged with killing his stepdaughter. The attorneys’ accusation was a result of new grand jury indict ments charging Davis with wounding his wife and family friend. The indictments were handed down a week before his trials. Attorneys claim the new indictments on the eve of the trial were an attempt to preju dice the jurors. National THE AVERAGE refund sent to taxpayers who already have filed 1976 returns was $456.34, said the Internal Revenue Serv ice yesterday. It’s the highest ever and probably will climb even more before all returns are processed. However, this year’s error rate is alarming the IRS, for after processing 1.8 million returns at the 10 regional service centers, they found one in every 10 early filers made mistakes. A DESIRE to establish nor mal relations between the United States and all nations, especially Angola, Cuba and Vietnam, was expressed by Pres ident Carter in one of his fullest discussions of U.S. relations to ward hostile nations yesterday. Carter says Cuba’s reported willingness to withdraw troops from Angola is a step toward that goal. MICHIGAN Restaurant As sociation, a 1,500-member group, announced that a “Truth in Menu” campaign will begin next week to make sure custom ers get exactly what they see and read on menus, said Association President Henry Montague. For example, menus may mislead by using commonly accepted generic terms like Coca-Cola for any kind of cola, butter for mar garine, and cream for coffee whitener or dairy substitute. ALMOST a third of the food stamps handed out in Florida are fraudulently obtained, then used to buy anything from guns and booze to sex, said investigators yesterday. State Attorney Joseph D’Alessandro said in Fort Myers that investigations in South Florida indicated “fraud is in volved in about 5 per cent” of emergency food stamp cases. World SECRETARY of State Cyrus Vance goes to Egypt today with an Israeli request to find out whether the Arab world might agree to limited negotiations on the Middle East. RRITAIN has ordered former CIA agent Philip Agee and Mark Hosenball, an American reporter for a London newspaper, to leave the country for violating national security.
