Its 188-foot high dam will capture 37,100 acre- feet at conservation level. Omega Phi Alpha delegates meet in national convention next week at Texas A&M University. The national service sorority will be hosted Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 17-19, by A&M’s Delta Chapter. About 25 delegates including na tional officers led by Jan Schnack are expected to attend, according to Mary Spivey. She is the Texas A&M chapter president for 1976-77. Delegates register Thursday and have a social event planned at the Lakeview Club. Friday meetings and workshops will center on lead ership development, convention planning and chapter projects. Na tional officers will conduct several of the workshops. A new slate of na tional officers will be elected. OPA delegates will be hosted Friday evening by Karen Switzer, student affairs counselor, and attend a Saturday noon banquet at Karl’s. The group adjourns from there to Houston for activities in cluding dinner at Trader Vic’s. Field teams are locating and rec- rding sites of prehistoric human labitation while simultaneously car- ying on an environmental impact tody. Principal investigators for the ll5 » iroject are Dr. Vaughn Bryant Jr. id Dr. Harry Shafer. Texas A&M ssearch archeologist Ed Baxter is upervising field work. The sites. North Fork Lake and ranger (formerly Laneport) Lake, re on the San Gabriel River. Shafer said he initiated some fork in the area in 1963 while at the Jniversity of Texas. Some subse- |uent work was done by UT ar- heologists, but only now has the ixtensive assessment begun, he ex plained. Time is now an important factor. “We have about five years work do in two years,” said Shafer. Another problem to crop up for \&M workers is illegal arrowhead mnting on the federal lands by imateur collectors. Such weekend ecoveries are against both federal md state laws, said the researchers, mdthey destroy any hopes of scien- illc study at such sites. Granger Lake, which has a con- iervation capacity of 65,500 acre- eet, will extend approximately 15 river miles upstream from its Ill- foot tall dam, inundating about eight miles of Willis Creek near Iranger, east of Georgetown.
