Citing Vermont, Florida, Oregon and Washington as exemplary in the area of environmental improve ment, he said, “It’ll only be a matter of time before other areas will be emptying all their people into our states.” To avoid this, he urged Texas, “Try to clean your own house ” Adair made Brazos Co. club prexy Dr. Thomas W. Adair was instal led Wednesday as Brazos County A&M Club president. Adair, physics professor at Texas A&M University, and other officers took their posts under charge from Association of Former Students President John Caple. Buck Weirus installed Adair and other recently elected Brazos A&M officers. Vice presidents are Malon Southerland, activities; Al Bor- mann, membership; Curtis Capps, high school relations; Bob Rut ledge, public relations; Lou Van Pelt, community relations, and George Mulloy, finance. “The question is not ‘will the people need to sacrifice?’ but rather, ‘what will the people need to sacrifice?’ McCall, who served Oregon’s maximum number of successive terms as governor, discussed a “third force” movement in the American two-party system. “I believe in the two-party sys tem,” he said, “but my question is, ‘why these two parties?’ ” Describing himself as an “inde pendent Republican,” McCall said, “I feel the Republicans are in the lifeboat, not on the ship. He condemned the recent no- discussion defeat of an environmen tal bill in the House, even though he considered the bill inadequate. “Quite simply it said if a state wants to work out a plan, the federal government will give it some money. If it stops, the government will stop giving it money. The weakest bill you ever saw, ” he said. He suggested a continuation of efforts by volunteer groups. “If there’s an issue that trans cends all boundaries, it’s the envi ronment,” he said. “It just takes the patience of Job and the wisdom of Moses.” TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!!
