Kol- dus, vice president for student services. Koldus, who assumed his posi tion last August, said, “From my perception, there is a need for re organizing to provide a centraliz ation of responsibilities and a con solidation of services. The pres- ei t structure is time consuming and inefficient.” This structure evolved, said Kol dus, in response to the tremend ous growth of the university in recent years. Adjustments and additions were made in a patch- work basis in answer to an im mediate and specific problem. “Problems that should receive my attention are often slowed in a maze of communication,” Kol dus said. “Many matters received by upper offices could be dealt with on a lower level.” The main advantages of the re organization Koldus plans are the grouping of similar services and the directness of the lines of com munication. “My office and its affiliates, the student government and the faculty advisory committee, are linked directly to the university police, the health center, the corps Bulletin Board TONIGHT CAP & GOWN will meet in Room 510 of the Rudder Center at 8 p. m. We’ll use an adapted system until then.” “A&M has gone through some growing pains,” said Dr. Charles Powell, dean of student affairs. “Once all we had was the Corps. When it split, housing was split also. As the school grew housing was divided between different of fices.” Powell said Koldus was hired last summer with the purpose of reorganizing the student esrvices structure. “The new organization places housing under one office and eliminates a lot of the con fusion between different living areas.” Previously A&M had only one band,” said Howard Perry, dean of student activities. “Now the university is getting stage and symphonic bands. All three will be under my office to avoid con flict. Activities that were scat tered before are now grouped.” Little change was indicated for the Corps, the health center and the campus police department. The Corps had operated through Dr. Powell, said Col. Thomas R. Parsons, commandant of the Corps. “Though the lines of com munications have been shortened the structure of the Corps re mains basically unchanged. Dr. Powell was very cooperative and Dr. Koldus understands the Corps and its purposes so there should be little difference.” “There has always been a lot of cooperation with our requests and decisions,” said Dr. W. H. Powe, director of the university health center, “so the hospital won’t be greatly affected by the change/’ Chief O. L. Luther, head of the university police, said the depart ment would function as it ever has. “There are not many prob lems now and the new system will hopefully eliminate them.” Typing done, $1.00 per page. 823-0497. 343t2 MEN! — WOMEN!
