CRUMRINE Miss Reveille Ma’am is the dog that definitely does not lead a dog’s life. Reveille HI is TAMU’s mascot. She is a big, beautiful American collie. According to tradition, she’s the highest senior on campus. Reveille III was donated in April of 1966 by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Husa of Fairbanks, Alaska. By that time it was evident that Reveille II would have to be retired for health reasons. Reveille III made her first public appearance at the funeral services for Reveille II, September 21, 1966. She was a six month old pup at that time. She made her next appearance as the official Aggie mascot at the ’66 A&M-Texas Tech game. Up until 1931, there was no mascot Some freshmen hit a puppy with a car and brought her back to school. She was smuggled into Milner and named Reveille when she showed her disapproval of being awakened by the bugle after her first night there by barking loudly and setting up quite a howl. Reveille I was the official pet of everyone, but more especially the best friend of homesick freshmen. She was made a general in the WAC’s. January 18, 1944 Reveille I died and Ags the world over mourned the loss. Reveille II came in January of 1952. She was a Shetland collie donated by Mr. Weinert, class of ’00. Reveille II was the “First Lady of the Corps” for 14 years. Each year two weeks before final review a freshman from E-2 (Rebel-E) Company is chosen to be in charge of Reveille’s feeding and care. He is picked for his ability to get along with her, his having been a good fish and his grades. Six fish tried out last year and J. H. Allen was given the honor. Last year, two weeks before final review he took over from Bobby HoveL Reveille HI lives with Allen and his roomate. Any time he is gone she is the responsibility of the entire outfit. The Former Student Special Reveille Fund takes care of her food cost and medical bills. When she dies she will be buried by Reveille I and II in Kyle field facing the score board so she can join in watching Aggies win. “It is tradition for the fish to call her Miss Reveille Ma’am and whip out to her. She’s from Fairbanks, Alaska and she’s taking campusology,” Allen said. Reveille III likes to play frisbee and when nobody is watching takes an occasional drink from the water fountain. She doesn’t know she is a dog and no one is going to tell her.
