Should Texas whip Texas Chris tian in Austin the Longhorns would clinch a sixth consecutive trip to the Cotton Bowl probably against Nebraska. Gator Bowl representatives will be in Lubbock to extend their hand to the Red Raiders should they drop the Baylor Bears. Houston is a lead pipe cinch to play in the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl probably against Tulane. The Cougars are open this week. Arkansas, should it defeat Southern Methodist in Dallas, would get an invitation to play in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta more than likely against Georgia. Texas Tech still is a 100-to-l shot to make it through the back door into the Cotton Bowl but the powerful Longhorns would have to lose to both TCU and the Texas Aggies to make it possible. Texas could clinch at least a tie for the SWC title with a victory against the Horned Frogs. Tech safety Danny Willis said the Red Raiders aren’t “counting ourselves out of the Cotton Bowl yet, but I’m not really looking for Texas to stumble. We want to go to a bowl, but what we really want is a 10-1 record. If we get that, the bowl invitation will take care of itself.” Texas Coach Darrell Royal said the return of tailback Mike Lut- trell has helped the Horned Frogs, but TCU won’t have starting quarterback Kent Marshall for the game. Marshall is lost for the season with a broken thumb. The oddsmakers show SMU a three point choice over Arkan sas; Texas a 30-point pick over TCU and Texas Tech a 19-point choice over Baylor in a regionally televised game. All games have 2 p. m. CST starting times except for the 12:50 kickoff at Lubbock. Texas has won 17 consecutive SWC games. The last conference loss was to Arkansas at Little Rock in 1971. The biggest crowd of the day, some 55,000 should be in Memorial Stadium for the Texas-TCU joust. /aptnamA* m Eddie Dominguez ’66 Joe Arciniega ’74 ’ If you want the real thing, not frozen or canned ...
