The tournament will start at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day with the final game played at 6 p.m. in P. L. Downs Nati- torium. The Aggie Yearlings and the local College Station Swim Club are the top seeded entries in the eight-team affair. The A&M frosh will be led by three 1972 high school all-Amer ican Selections: Ron R e e s e r, Long Beach, Calif.; Tom Sanders, College Station; and Tom Schwab, Pittsburgh, Penn. The goalie position is being contested by Roy Bowman, the goalie from last year’s A&M Con solidated state champion team and Brian Holt of Clear Creek High School. Both players were listed on last year’s all-Texas high school team. Bob Davis of Weslaco, Scott Hawkins of Cleer Creek, Hank Ecroyd of Killeen, and Craig Vanderzandt of Bryan are bat tling it out for the final three starting positions. Other teams in the tourna ment, which is limited to college freshmen players and younger are: McAllen High School, Clear Creek High School, St. Marks School of Dallas, Tarpons Swim Club and Jack’s Shack Water Polo Club of Houston, and La- Marque High School, coached by former A&M standout swimmer Donn Boyd. The varsity water polo team is working out while coach Den nis Fosdick tries to sort out his starting unit from the more than 80 hopefuls who reported for the water polo and swimming teams. All Day The Aggies have lost only six games the last two years while winning 44 and Fosdick expects to do better this year. “I can see losing only one or two games this year,” said Fos dick, “and that will be when we travel to New Mexico or Califor nia. There’s not another team I know of in the Southwest that can touch us. “We have much more playing experience this year, both on the varsity and freshmen teams. We have a well balanced team with quite a bit of depth.” Water polo is a club sport at A&M and is not officially sanc tioned by the Athletic Depart ment. They must therefore pay their own way for trips, so to do this, the team cleans up Kyle Field after Aggie home football games. Two years ago the team was able to afford to take a trip to Brazil to compete against South American teams while this year and last year the team travels to California. “This is an exciting s p o r t,” said Fosdick. “It’s rough and fast with lots of body contact and if anybody would take the time to watch a couple of games I’m sure they’d find it easily enjoy able.” 8:00 P.M.
