I The p |ld at 1 fenter b jward-w New Intramural Director When I came to A&M three yars ago intramurals had just finished a season that could be called anything but successful. TTien Les Palmer moved from a teaching pisition in the Health and Physical Education Department to become IMA director and gave the program new life. Palmer was just the transfusion that was needed to bring the necessary participation to an all time high. During his tenure he established the beginnings of a girls program, involved off- campus housing and fraternities, made practice equipment available to all intramural teams and expanded the program to six classes or leagues. The burden of taking overe where Palmer left off now falls on the shoulders of Dennis Corrington. Corrington comes to A&M after serving as assistant director of intra murals at the University of Texas (nobody’s perfect). Cor rington is not the only new face to be found around the IMA office. For the first time in A&M’s history a full time assistant director has been hired. Jim Jeter comes to Ag- gieland after serving as physical fitness director and athletic officer for the U. S. Army at Fort Hood. “The department is in good hands,” said Palmer who now returns to full time teaching duties in the P.E. department. Something For Everybody Student input in the program is vital, not only as participants but as officials, spectators and supporters. There is something for everybody in A&M intramurals. Class A is military upperclassmen; B, military freshman; C, resident hall males; G, Girls; X, off-campus frats and clubs and Z, co-recreational. IMA runs programs in football, volleyball, handball, tennis, golf, bowling, basketball, racquet- ball, hand ball, pocket billiards, cross country, swimming, wrestling, ping pong, track, horse shoes, softball. Over 27, 000 students participated in intramural sports last year (counting duplications) with some 7,500 individuals. Desparate For More Room As A&M grows so must the intramural facilities but this seems to be in direct conflict. Land that was earmarked for future intramural use is now under consideration for dormitory and classroom buildings. The Southern Associa tion of Intramural Athletics has made a study of the exist ing facilities and echoes the sentiments of more facilities. Anyone who has waited to play handball for an hour can testify to that. A $500,000 proposal for a new intramural complex that would make A&M’s program second to none was turned down by the board of directors last year and is being resub mitted again this year. There is no reason for A&M not to have facilities to match the already fine program. Make your wishes known to the administration and stop by De- Ware field house and visit IMA. They have something for everybody. Billy Casper Moves to Sixth on Money List NEW YORK UP)—Billy Casper, his season earnings increased by $40,000 in first-prize money for the Greater Hartford Open last weekend, vaulted from 12th place to 6th among pro golf's money winners in figures released Tues day by the PGA Tournament Players Division. Casper boosted his season win nings to $127,142. Bruce Crampton, with $273,351, continues to lead the 1973 earn ings list for pro golfers. The one who will start against Chicago will be the one who will be our quar terback,” said Landry, who is trying to choose between Roger Staubach and Craig Morton again this year. in about the same position Wash ington is in with Jurgensen and Kilmer and that’s a good position to be in,” Landry told a press conference. The Cowboy mentor said he would start Staubach in Thurs day’s final pre-season game against the Miami Dolphins, but would bring Morton in during the second half. “I think we have two quarter backs who can win for us.
