Sandy Sandstedt won the 100- meter breast stroke for girls 13 and 14 in the “B” Division. The club had four winners in the “C” Division: Peter Maer- tens won both the 25-meter fly and back stroke for boys eight and under; Mark Robeck, 50 back, senior boys; Ronald Giaro- la, 50 fly, boys 11-12; and Rene Tank, 25 breast, girls 11 and 12. (Photo by Peter Leabo) Marvel Named Vice President Of Texas World Speedway Dan Holloway, owner of the Texas World Speedway, an nounced that Bill Marvel has been named Vice President and General Manager of the modern motorsports facility. Marvel’s recent appointment to his new post was announced fol lowing the resignation of Ed Hamblen, who had served as the Director of Racing Activities at the track since May of 1972. However, Hamblen will con tinue to serve the speedway as an advisor for future races upon the request of his successor, Bill Marvel, and track owner, Dan Holloway. Marvel, who has a vast back ground in professional automo bile racing, was the Public Re lations Director at Pocono In ternational Raceway for the past three years. Marvel and his family have im mediate plans to make their new home in College Station. In addition to Marvel’s as signment to Texas World Speed way, Holloway also announced plans for a second US AC Twin 200’s, scheduled for Saturday, October 6th. The girls 13-14 freestyle re lay team placed second. It was composed of Sandy Sandstedt, Karen Smith, Ginny Smith and Oguita Oliver. The boys 13-14 freestyle and medley relays placed third in both outings., The boys teams included Ross Rodaro, Mark Ro beck, Ed Kahil, David Comstock and Chris Stephenson. The girls 13-14 medley team also placed third. It was com posed of Oguita Oliver, Ginny Smith, Sandy Sandstedt and Ka ren Smith. A third-place finish also was tabulated by the boys 11-12 free style, made up of Mark Kahil, Kyle Lewallen, John Smith and Ronny Giarola. Lacrosse Club Hosts Houston This Weekend The A&M Lacrosse Club opens its season against the University of Houston Lacrosse Club Sun day at 10 a.m. at the drill field across from the Memorial Stu dent Center. Lacrosse is noted for free wheeling play due to lenient rules and is considered by many to be the most exciting game around.
