Congressman Teague Upset Over Watergate, In Good Health And To Remain In Party WASHINGTON, D. C.—Con gressman Olin E. Teague (D.- Tex.) responded to questions con cerning Watergate, the energy crisis, party loyalty and his own health in an interview last week. Congressman Teague was asked what his feelings were on the Watergate issue. Mr. Teague said, “I am hurt and disappointed over the Watergate affair and I think it has caused the whole country, indeed the whole world, to lose faith in our government. I heard Lyndon Johnson, not long before he died, say something that has certainly proven to be true. He made the remark that President Nixon had surrounded himself with amateurs and cer tainly that has proven to be true, and those amateurs have not known what to do. I think some people will go to prison and I think they should go to prison. I have much faith in the Presi dent. I do not believe that he had any knowledge of having set in motion something in the name of national security that ended up by people interpreting in a way to think they were supposed to break the law for the benefit of the President. Mr. Teague said, “For approximately two years I have known something was wrong with me. I have been to approxi mately fifty doctors, four clinics, and I have gone to every type of doctor. They could not find out what was wrong. When I took leave of absence from Con gress, I was taken from the Capi tol to the hospital with what was supposedly a heart attack. They found that nothing was wrong with my heart. They thought then that it was my gall bladder, but they found nothing wrong, with it. It was finally diagnosei as pancreatitis, which I under-' stand is a difficult something to' diagnose. I have lost twenty- two pounds, I am back to work and I am feeling fine.” Mr. Teague was also asked if the rumors about him switching to the Republican Party were true. He said, “There have been rumors in Texas about my switch ing to the Republican Party, but that is simply not so. I was a Democrat yesterday, I am a Democrat today, I will be a Dem ocrat tomorrow and I expect to be a Democrat the day I die.” Teague continued, saying, “I was asked about John Connally’s switch to the Republican Party and I must say that I consider Connally a personal friend. I ad mire him very much, but I was disappointed in his recent switch. He could have been a tremendous help in restructuring the Demo cratic Party. There are efforts right now to put the Democratic Party back in the mainstream of American politics. I have worked very hard to elect Bob Strauss to the chairmanship of the Demo cratic Party and he is doing a great job. I think we have made tremendous progress and will soon be back in the mainstream of American politics.” Lake Buchanan Weekend Trip Being Planned Texas A&M students will shelve books and notes Friday for a weekend camping trip to Lake Buchanan. The Memorial Student Center- arranged activity will allow them to forget studies a while. The all-purpose camping trip Friday, Saturday and Sunday is open to anyone in the university community, stressed MSG Sum mer Council President Shirley Ashorn. The private campgrounds north west of Burnet are available to the TAMU group, at no cost. Par ticipants will supply their own equipment and food. Camping, back-packing, swimming, fishing, boating and skiing are planned, according to Recreation Chairman Doug Ridge. Persons interested in the out ing for both nights and days or part of the weekend should con tact Ridge or a member of the MSC committee at the Student Program Office, 845-1515, for par ticulars. “About 20 to 25 campers would be an ideal size group,” noted Mrs. Carolyn Adair, student pro grams advisor. “This is a big lake, very deep and unusually clear,” she added. “There is much wilderness ranch land near it, on which back-pack trips might he arranged.
