The rain-delayed tournament sported 25 teams including nine of the top 18 teams in the coun try. SMU won the tournament with 15 points, followed by Corpus Christi with 11 and A&M, Rice and the University of Houston with 10 points. The Aggies were paced in their efforts by Dan Courson and Car ter Lomax who teamed to win the doubles event. doubles victory of any school ex cept Trinity, Corpus or Rice in the tournament’s history. Courson and Lomax were un seeded among the tough compe tition and their win was the first Bill Hoover and Bill Wright also had a successful tournament for the Aggies, winning their first two single matches and gaining spots in the top 16 singles players in the tourney. Some 130 players participated Ags Rained Out With Rice, Host Minnesota Today in the event which was held on Rice’s Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. In the class B division of the tournament, Kermit Smith and Mike Mills also reached the final 16 singles players for the Aggies. Coach Omar Smith was elated over the performance of the team in what he called “the toughest intercollegiate tournament in the country. “The whole team worked hard to give a good showing at a ma jor tournament,” Smith said. “This was a real big win for us.” The Aggies’ next tennis action is Friday and Saturday when they host Stephen F.
