He also announced the signing of five new swimming recruits for the Aggies. Puckett, a freshman who swam the butterfly, was named the most outstanding swimmer on the squad. The five new recruits: Casey Cutler of Newtrier East High School in Wilmette, Illinois, a two-time all-state and all- America swimmer in the butter fly and freestyle. Paul McKinzie of DeAnza Jun ior College in Cupertino, Calif., a junior college all-America water polo player who swims the breaststroke. Thomas Heholt of Crosse Point North High School in Crosse Point Woods, Mich., the state champion and an all-America in the sprint freestyle. Nash Dowdle Jr. of Midland, Tex., High, an all-stater in the breaststroke, backstroke and in- Engineering society donates scholarship Members of the Gulf Coast Chapter, American Society of Safety Engineers have establish ed a $500 scholarship at A&M for an undergraduate studying either industrial safety or indus trial engineering. The student selected for the annual scholarship must be a junior or two-year college trans fer from the gulf coast area. Assistant Engineering Dean Clifford H. Ransdell said the scholarship is the first established for safety studies at TAMU. The Gulf Coast Chapter of ASSE has approximately 300 members. High, an outstanding swimmer and water polo player, competes in the breaststroke, backstroke and individual med ley. The election of three A&M stu dents as advisory directors of the University National Bank has been announced by UNB Presi dent Joe Sawyer. Mark Blake- more, Ron Krnavek and Layne Kruse were selected to replace outgoing advisory directors John Sharp, Tom Stanley and Gordon Pilmer. “We feel that Mark, Ron and Layne represent a good cross- section of the students at A&M,” Sawyer said. “They will serve in the same capacity as our retiring advisory directors which was to provide A&M students with a voice in University National Bank’s management.” Blakemore, a native of Rich mond, Ky., is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Charles Blakemore. He has served in the Student Senate as representative from the College of Geosciences. Blakemore, 19, was recently elected president of the Civilian Student Council at A&M. He is a geology major with high academic standing. Blake more has been a delegate to the International Student Association Conference in addition to his ac tivities in A&M student life. Krnavek has been named com mander of A&M’s Corps of Ca dets for 1972-73. He is an en gineering technology major from Corpus Christi, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy G. Krnavek. Ron is a member of the Ross Volunteers, Town Hall Commit tee and Great Issues. He was selected as outstanding cadet at Air Force ROTC Summer Camp in 1971. A member of the Corps of Cadets Staff this year Krna vek served as sergeant major. Kruse, 20, was elected by the Aggie student body as President of the Student Government for 1972-73. Kruse, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Kruse, is an economics student from McGreg or. He has been appointed to serve on the A&M Cadet Corps Staff for the coming year. Kruse has been active on the Student Senate for two years and also serves on the TAMU President’s Advisory Council. He has been designated a distinguished uj demic student each semester j A&M. The newly elected advisory J rectors will begin serving * the June 13 University Nati«| Bank board meeting. “These three outstandingyo'^ men will give use a betteru»iij standing of the banking needij Texas A&M students," Sanj said. “We are pleased to kii them working with bank niatnj ment to provide maximum sir ice to Texas Aggies.” Plymouth searching nation for 1954 Savoy Thomas Heholt Mark Kidd wins horticulture prize Mark Kidd of Harlingen, junior horticulture major at A&M, has been named winner of a $100 David Burpee Award sponsored by the Burpee Seed Company. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Comer C. Kidd of Route 2, Har lingen. The honor is based on grades, activities and interest in horticul ture as a career. Kidd’s grade point average is 3.73 on a four- point system. Chrysler-Plymouth Division has started a nationwide search for an 18-year-old car — and is willing to trade a new 1972 mod el for it. The car being sought is a 1954 Plymouth Savoy, four-door sedan. The Division is not looking for just any 1954 Plymouth Savoy. It wants the best one still in operation. There were 139,383 of this model produced. F. G. Hazelroth, Chrysler-Ply mouth general sales manager, said he wants to locate the best of that model-year Plymouth, trade a new Plymouth Fury Gran Coupe for it, and give it — com pletely reconditioned — to singer Johnny Cash. “Some months ago, Johnny Cash was in a recording session, making Plymouth radio com mercials,” Hazelroth explained. “While they were taking a break, he told some of our people that the best car he ever owned was the 1954 Plymouth Savoy that he and his brother had when he was getting his start in the entertain ment business. Someone sug gested that he repeat what he had just said while the record ing equipment was operating. He recorded his ad libbed statement and it became a Plymouth com mercial.
