(AP Wirephoto) A contract for over $89,000 has been awarded to the Texas Agri cultural Experiment Station to study manpower training require ments in Texas agricultural in dustries, Dr. H. O. Kunkel, dean of the College of Agriculture and acting director of the Experi ment Station at Texas A&M Uni versity, announced. The contract, totaling $89,180, was awarded over a 14-month period by the Division of Occu pational Research and Develop ment, Department of Occupation al and Technical Education of the Texas Education Agency in Aus tin. Kunkel said the purpose of the study is to determine the number and types of occupations in Texas agricultural industries and to pro ject future manpower training and needs for these occupations. Project Director Dr. Conrad Fritsch, an assistant professor with the Department of Agricul tural Economics and Rural Soci ology, said a well trained work force is needed to handle the pres ent and future requirements of agriculture. “Many employers have only a slight understanding of the train ing provided by vocational agri cultural programs and their po tential to meet the needs of the employer,” he said. “Likewise, many educators are not familiar with the occupational skills and the level of skills required for job entry.” Fritsch added that, in this study, manpower training needs will be identified with respect to secondary, two-year college and four-year college level require ments. Co-directors of the experiment station project are Dr. John W. Holcomb and Dr. Earl S. Webb, both professors with the Depart ment of Agricultural Education at A&M. ★ ★ ★ Oberle attends USDA meeting Dr. Wayne H. Oberle of the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station recently participated in a project meeting of the Western Region of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Las Cruces, N.M. An assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Eco nomics and Rural Sociology at A&M, Oberle joined discussions on the impact of regional govern ments and its effects on rural development. He was selected to represent the region in a national workshop to be held in Vermont in July. Oberle is co-author of “Beyond the Suburbs: The Changing Rural Life,” a two-volume textbook of readings being used in some A&M rural sociology courses. Bellard to speak to Brazos A&M Club Brazos County Aggies will get a first look at what A&M football coach Emory Bellard will be say ing across the state this summer when the new head coach speaks to the Brazos County A&M Club tonight. Bellard will be making one of his first talks following the Ag gie spring training session. His discussion will include 1972 foot ball prospects and the overall athletic program at TAMU. There will be a question-answer session. A social begins at 6:30 in the Ramada Inn, followed by the dinner-meeting at 7:30. Clayton an nounced. A native of Beaumont, Denman earned a master of education de gree in guidance and counseling last year at Stephen F. Austin State University. She received her undergraduate degree in English at the University of Houston in 1957. Denman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George M. Denman of Beau mont, previously served as a coun selor and English teacher at Ball High School in Galveston.
