Don’t forget your girl friend’s Corsage for the Freshman Ball. Elegance without extravagance New designers at Aggieland Fish scoring machine defeats Cubs, 105-83 By JOHN CURYLO The Aggie Fish used the 30- point performance of Cedric Joseph and the ball-handling, 20- point output of Mike Floyd to defeat the Baylor Cubs in Waco Tuesday night, 105-83. All five A&M starters scored in the double figures, and the Fish led by as many as 21 late in the contest. The win gave the Aggies a 10-4 season record. “I was real pleased with the way they played,” Coach Jim Cul pepper said. “They did a good job of bouncing back from the game they played against the TCU Wogs.” The Fish took the lead midway in the first half, and they refused to give it up throughout the game. They led by nine twice in the opening stanza, widening the gap to 10 at intermission, 49-39. It was no battle in the second half, with the Fish staying away from the Cubs the rest of the way. A jumper by Joseph at 14:21 left it at 65-54, and a similar shot a minute later by Dale Donaldson upped it to 69-56. The Cubs cut the margin to 10, 80-70, with 5:43 remaining to play, but 31 seconds later it was 87-70 by virtue of a Joseph three- pointer. The buffer stood up this time, with the edge being enlarged to 19 with 3:20 left. This lead stood up until 1:14 was left. Jerry Mer cer sank the second of two free throws, having missed the first, to make it 100-80. Floyd followed with a charity shot to force the 101-80 differ ence. Totals of 103-82 and the final score followed, giving the Fish their second win of the sea son over the Cubs, making Baylor 5-9. The Cubs pressed throughout the night, a tactic which harassed the Fish in their game with the Texas Yearlings two weeks ago. This didn’t cause the Aggies too much grief, however, and A&M captured its fifth conference win. “Floyd and the rest of the players didn’t let the press bother them,” Culpepper said. “It’s a matter of poise, and their matur ity showed up well.” The scoring: A&M—Cedric Joseph, 30; Mike Floyd, 20; Jerry Mercer, 15 ; Donaldson, 14; Webb Wj 13; Isdell Birnbaum, 6; Cornelius, 3; John Vaugh and Lee Billingsley, 2. Baylor — Charlie Bassett, Gary Trentham, 17; TomWg 14; James Weaver, 13; Buct derson, 10; Bill Keyes, 5; Paul Shelburne, 2.
