(Photo by Mike Rice) Ag wrestlers get third straight win by downing UT Longhorns, 26-21 Aggie wrestlers defeated the University of Texas, 26-21, in Austin Saturday. This is the third consecutive victory over the Long horns. A&M’s lone defeat at the hands of the Longhorns came in 1970. The win upped the Aggies rec ord to 2-0 with an earlier season win at the North Texas State Invitational Wrestling tournament in Denton. The meet went into the final match to determine a team cham pionship. A&M’s Jim Hike took a 4-2 decision over Harold Greer for the winning margin. The Ag gies were ahead, 23-21, before the match started but Texas was gaining strength. Glenn Burt started the Aggies on their way with a forfeit win in his 118 pound class. Tanker, of Texas, then pinned Gerry Geanes for the Longhorns first point pro duction of the afternoon. A&M’s J. P. Jones pinned Berab in the 134-pound category to put the Ags in front, 12-6. Lance Rutherford defeated the Longhorns Dubois in a 6-3 deci sion in the 142-pound class. Steve Stone, of A&M, won a resound ing 17-2 decision over Embrey in the 150-pound class. A&M’s Andy Beck, captain of the Aggie team, also won a superior deci sion by defeating Liles of Texas, 18-5. With A&M ahead 23-6, the Longhorns began to gain strength by winning the following three matches. Hessel won a tight 9-8 decision over A&M’s Ray Shep herd and Mike Trehan was pinned by South of Texas in the 177- pound class to chop the Aggie lead to 23-15 with two matches remaining. In the 191-pound class, Bruce Mansefield was pinned by Texas’s Dearborn to bring the score to 23-21 and only the heavyweight match left on the agenda. A&M’s Rike won the decision and gave A&M the team champ ionship. Next Aggie wrestling action will be against Pan American in Edinburg on Saturday.
