(i*’)—When Soviet Ler Alexei N. Kosygin land- fin Havana Tuesday, the air- L scene included a Boeing 747 L jet, hijacked the previous from New York with 236 [sons aboard. ke American Airlines plane L held at Jose Marti Inter- [jonal Airport when Kosygin [ived from Toronto shortly aft- [noon had landed more than 14 urs earlier. j?AA spokesman said Cuban licials gave no indication when would be permitted to r Miami. After that Kosygin celebration dies down, maybe they’ll get around to releasing it,” said one spokesman. “They only have one runway, you know.” The Swiss Embassy in Havana reported that the 221 passengers were taken off the plane and lodged in a hotel shortly after the plane arrived at 9:68 p.m. Mon day, an American Airlines spokes man said. The spokesman said the plane probably would refuel in Miami and then continue its interrupted flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico. American’s Flight 98 originated in Dallas, but boarded most of its passengers in New York. It was hijacked by a gunman after leaving New York for San Juan. A FAA spokesman said three sky marshals and an off-duty FBI agent were aboard the plane, but it was unclear if they tried to prevent the hijacking. Spokesmen said Senior Captain O. R. Salemla radioed that “a male has a gun on a stewardess in the first-class lounge and in dicates he wants to go to Hava na.” >-3708 >R\U\ shorts, and 46-0123 NOW OPEN! Your Friedrich Dealer Joe Faulk Auto Parts 220 E. 25th Bryan, Texas JOE FAULK ’32 Our 25th year in Bryan Instead of stepping on bath room scales, an individual can take a battery of accurate physiologi cal tests and measures adminis tered by the Health and Physical Education Department to get a true, complete indication of fit ness. Conducted by Dr. George Jes sup in the fitness program run by Dr. John M. Chevrette, the tests reveal much more about physical well-being than often- inaccurate home scales might even hint. Tests administered by Jessup, an exercise physiologist from the University of Southern California, include a physical efficiency pro file, resting heart rate, blood pressure, weight, percent body fat, cardiovascular test and heart rate following exercise. Requiring only 10 minutes for the average fitness individual, the tests are given in the health and physical education lab in Room 120 in G. Rollie White Coliseum. The lab is open weekdays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. “Anyone interested in being tested can drop in or call me at 845-6841,” Jessup said. Chevrette and Jessup emphasiz ed that testing is not limited to participants in the noon physical fitness program supervised by Chevrette. The lab is also avail able for people who swim, play handball, badminton or basketball or conduct their own exercise out side of departmental programs. “We try to cater to as many of the important aspects of fit ness as possible,” Jessup said. Primary emphasis is placed on maintenance, cardiovascular en durance, flexibility and strength. He pointed out that coordination and agility are most important to top-condition athletes. Participants in the noon pro gram benefit greatly from the measures, Chevrette believes. “It is scientific evidence that a person is making gains,” he ex plained, “gains that are not shown by weight alone. The tests might also motivate the individual who tends to be irregular in the pro gram.” Jessup said strenuousness of the test exercises are tailored to the individual. A six-minute bi cycle ride (the Ostrand test) is given to the beginner “while the high-fitness person who has been exercising and needs a more in volved test gets on the tread mill,” he said.
