Budge, instructor. ★ ★ ★ Security school held this week Fifteen security officials from six states are attending the 24th Industrial Plant Security School this week. The program is conducted by the Police Training Division of the Engineering Extension Serv ice. Apollo 14 has battery problem SPACE CENTER, Houston <A>) —A battery problem developed in the Apollo 14 lunar landing ve hicle today just hours before the astronauts were to orbit the moon. There was no immediate indi cation of the severity of the prob lem or whether it could block an attempt at a moon landing Fri day. No official announcement was made, but sources reported the difficulty was with one of two batteries in the ascent stage of the lunar module the astronauts call Antares. The word came as astronauts Alan B. Shepard Jr., Edgar D. Mitchell and Stuart A. Roosa started a nine-hour sleep period, resting for the grueling days ahead in the vicinity of the moon. The sources said that during the lunar module check Shepard and Mitchell had tested the bat teries and that ground indica tions showed one registering 37.1 volts and the other 37. They are supposed to have the same read ing. Chief Instructor Ira E. Scott said 15 speakers from federal agencies and industrial plants will address the school. ★ ★ ★ Accounting lecture scheduled for Friday The first in a spring semester series of accounting lectures will be held Friday. Shu S. Liao of the University of Illinois will be featured in the initial lecture. His talk, “Man agement’s Perceptions of the Business Firms,” will be at 2 p.m. in Room 306 of Francis Hall, announced Dr. Kenneth S. Most, Accounting Department head. Professor Liao is an instruc tor in accounting at the Urbana- Champaign institution. ★ ★ ★ Downs pool remains open Recreation and fitness swim ming will continue through the winter for students, faculty-staff and their families. Aquatics director Dennis Fos- dick of the Health and Physical Education Department said P. L. Downs Jr. Natatorium will main tain the same hours as the pro gram observed during the fall. Fitness swimming will be dur ing the noon hour Mondays through Fridays, Fosdick said. Recreation swimming will be on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thurs days from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. ★ ★ ★ Monroe chosen selection head Dr. Haskell M. Monroe of the History Department is chairman of a group of leading Southern historians assigned to select the fcest documentary or reference work published on the Confeder ate States during 1970. The associate professor heads the Founders Award Committee for the Museum of the Confed eracy, Richmond, Va. ★ ★ ★ Agricultural finance topic of discussion A nationally recognized author ity on finance, Dr. John Hopkin, will discuss the “Agricultural Finance Outlook,” during the 19th annual Texas Farm and Ranch Credit School for Commercial Bankers here Feb. 15-17. Hopkin, a former vice president for agribusiness with the Bank of America, joined Texas A&M Uni versity as Stiles Professor of Agricultural Finance in August, 1970. The vote was 94-52, compared with Monday’s 78-67 vote. The measure needs a two-thirds vote — 100 votes — to clear the House and go to the Senate. “This is a very bad bill, a seif seeking bill,” said Rep.
