F. W. Hensel of the Continu ing Education Office said the All-University Calendar meeting will start at 5 p.m. Representatives of student or ganizations and departments should be prepared to turn in desired dates for 1970-71 activi ties. “A representative is requested to be present if events fall on a Friday or Saturday, since most conflicts come on weekends,” not ed Hensel, continuing education coordinator. He said that because of space requirements, regularly sched uled meetings of departmental clubs and societies are not listed. Special meetings, such as yearly initiations or banquets, should be submitted. Hensel pointed out that all requests, including those by stu dent governing bodies, college, graduate, apartment and school councils, must be submitted in writing. The 1970 fall semester runs from Aug. 31 to Dec. 22, with commencement on Dec. 12 and Nov. 26-29 scheduled by the Reg istrar for the Thanksgiving holi days. Spring semester classes begin Jan. 18 and conclude May 7, with commencement and Final Review May 8 and semester exams May 10-15. Spring recess is April 8- 13, inclusive. The Tom Leland Scholarship was presented to Larry Klein of Kerrville. The $500 award is in memoral of the former A&M Accounting Department head. Senior Larry Peebles of Tem ple, who plans to attend gradu ate school at North Texas State, received the $400 Arthur Ander son Scholarship. Sophomores receiving $100 Arthur Anderson awards included Joseph Aston of Farmersville, David Berend of WindthorSt and Timothy Dunn of Baytown. Mrs. Dorothy Mitchell of Bry an received the $400 Peat, Mar wick, Mitchell and Co. Scholar ship. The $300 Peat, Marwich, Mitchell and Co. award went to Michael Marshall of Houston. The $300 Ernst and Ernst Scholarships were awarded to James Bizzak of Crane and Wil liam Leftwich of Dallas. All the scholarship awards are for two academic semesters. ★ ★ ★ 33 Maritime Cadets To Receive Licenses GALVESTON — License pres entation exercises for 33 Texas Maritime Academy cadets will be conducted May 22 at Ball High School auditorium, announced Adm. James D. Craik, TMA superintendent. Admiral Craik said 19 of the cadets also will receive degrees from A&M May 23. Examinations for the licenses were administered last week by U.S. Coast Guard officials from Houston. The licenses certify the recipi ent’s qualification to serve in the merchant marine as a third mate or third assistant engineer. TMA, a division of Texas A&M, offers a four-year pro gram leading to degrees in ma rine transportation or marine engineering. ★ ★ ★ Laundry Announces Summer Schedule The laundry schedule for the summer sessions is now being posted at all laundry stations on campus. The new schedule, effective June 1, calls for persons whose names begin with A through C to turn in their laundry on Wed nesday; D through H on Thurs day; I through M on Friday; Me through R on Monday; and S through Z on Tuesday. Laundry is to be deposited by 8:30 a.m. and picked up after 3 p.m. the following day. Students residing in Dorms 7 through 10 will deposit and pick up their laundry in the Dorm 12 station number 2. All other stu dents will deposit their laundry at the hospital station 4 and pick it up at the main laundry office. ★ ★ ★ UH Wins Computer Programming Title The University of Houston is the winner of the first annual Texas Computer Programming Championships hosted here by A&M. Baylor was second in the week end competition, followed by TCU and A&M. Eleven schools were represented. The 4-man winning team shared a $100 cash prize. The Baylor entry received $50 and TCU and Texas A&M, $25 each. Prizes were furnished by IBM, Univac, University Computing Co., General Dynamics, Atlantic Richfield and Shell Oil Co. The computer competition, be lieved to be the first of its type in the nation, was sponsored by the Data Processing Center and Industrial Engineering Depart ment. ★ ★ ★ Exchange Store Sells Caps, Gowns Bachelor’s and master’s degrea candidates can purchase gradua tion caps and gowns from the Exchange Store as late as grad uation day, reports store man ager Chuck Cargill. However, Cargill urged the graduates to make their pur chases early. Graduation exercises are sched uled for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 23. The Exchange Store opens at 8 a.m. Saturdays. Cargill noted the caps and gowns are disposable. The pur chase price for bachelor’s regalia is $6.34 and master’s regalia will cost $7.04. Undergraduate members of the Corps of Cadets may wear the Class “A” summer uniform. Military personnel who are can didates for bachelor’s or master’s degrees may wear the uniform in lieu of academic regalia. Doctoral regalia is rented. Ar rangements must be made with the Exchange Store by Friday, May 8. Rental for the doctoral candi date is $7.56 for the doctor’s cap and gown and $7.56 for the doc tor’s hood.
