Dean of Agriculture H. O. Kunkel said activities will include practice judging contests for 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America members. Events are livestock, dairy cattle, dairy products, poultry, meats, land, land evaluation (4-H only), and range and pastures. He said judging starts prompt ly at 8 a.m. in the Animal Hus bandry Pavilion. Career Day ex hibits will be on display from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of Plant Sciences. Exhibits will present informa tion on careers and study pro grams in the many fields of agri culture. More than 15 displays are planned. Faculty and student represen tatives will be available to talk with students, answer questions and distribute brochures. “Anyone interested in the chal lenging field of agriculture is en couraged to attend the program,” Dean Kunkel said. Work Begins on Sidewalks Parts of campus sidewalks that turn into lakes every time it rains are scheduled to get a face lifting, according to Robert Ruck er, the university’s landscape ar chitect. Rucker said that his crews are making efforts to first locate sidewalk raintraps and then cor rect the situations, either by jacking up the cement slabs or making some arrangements for temporary drainage. said. “Our big problem in the past has been in obtaining funds to this project, but it looks like we will have the money to make these repairs this summer.” Rucker added that at the same time he is planning to build new sidewalks where pedestrian paths cut through the grass indicate there should be some. He said that most of the per manent repairs are scheduled to occur in the summer, when the earth is dry. “We are currently plotting these areas on maps,” Rucker WATCH THE BOUNCING BALL—Trainees at Pacific Telephone’s pole-climbing- school in Los Angeles toss basketballs to build confidence while perched atop a pole 30 feet above ground. Wesley Donaldson, president of the United Chest board of direc tors, said a review of various as pects of a combined drive is prompted by Texas A&M Uni versity’s new policy concerning the annual fund-raising program on campus. The new policy, Donaldson ex plained, gives the university em ployes the opportunity to con tribute to either the Bryan or College Station drive. Additionally, the new A&M policy states that contributions not designated for either fund will (be divided between the two drives in proportion to their budgets. In a 7-1 decision, the high court rejected the appeal of Vin cent J. O’Connor, who was con victed in U.S. District Court for northern California of willful fail ure to report for civilian service as an alternative to military service. O’Connor, who was sentenced to three years in prison, argued that Selective Service law has no moral or legal basis to re quire him to serve in the armed forces and therefore did not re quire him to do substitute civil ian work.
