Kent, mathematics faculty member with special interest in astronomy. Full-sky photos also will be made during the unique event. Graduate students participating in the cruise are Johnnie B. Linn of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Roswell G. Tucker Houston; Ronald O. Thompson, Shreveport, La.; and Frank D. Ferrari, Oak Ridge, Tenn. Four technicians complete the scientific complement. Franceschini said the investi gators will fly to Merida, Mexico, March 3, meet the Alaminos at nearby Progresso March 4 and sail March 6. After three days on station, the ship will sail for Galveston. The Alaminos is currently in the Caribbean on a geophysical cruise headed by Dr. William M. Sackett. Careful monitoring of satellite pictures of cloudiness over the gulf will be conducted to optimize the Alaminos’ chances of being in a clear area at the time of the eclipse, Franceschini added. The cloud watch will be continued by radio with Merida until the eclipse begins. At 24 degrees north latitude and 89.5 degrees west longitude where the ship is scheduled to be during the March 7 event, the eclipse will begin at 10:35 a.m. and end at 1:25 p.m. History Prof To Speak On Huey Long HAPPINESS IS WARM FEET—Snoopy relaxes on a Minneapolis roof, warming his feet by the chimney. Dudas will address the joint meeting of the local section of the American Society for Engineer ing Education and the College of Engineering Lecture Series at 3:45 p.m. in the Architecture Auditorium, reports ASEE presi dent Dr. C. D. Holland. A former fighter pilot and proj ect officer in the U.S. Navy, Dudas recently made national headlines defending the F-lll, declaring the U.S. Air Force needed the plane. Defense cuts, he told national newsmen, were creating potential bombing mis sions that no other aircraft could handle. He contends the plane is by far the best in the air today. Dudas received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aeronautical engineering from the University of Illinois and a MBA from Har vard Graduate School of Busi- REGISTRATION AND TEXT BOOKS BREAK YOU? J. Eigsti of Chicago State College, now a visiting pro fessor, will lecture Thursday on “Triploid Watermelons: Their Past, Present and Future.” His discussion is set for 4 p.m. in Room 317 of the Animal In dustries Building. Dr. James Smith of the A&M Plant Sciences Department said Eigsti’s research interests for the past 20 years have centered on problems dealing with polyploidy and with triploid watermelons in particular. A triploid melon is one which has three sets of chromosomes instead of the usual two. Smith said Eigsti received his doctorate in botany from the University of Illinois and did post-doctoral work with the De partment of Genetics of the Car negie Institution of Washington. He has been a Fulbright Lecturer to Pakistan, a UNESCO Lecturer to India and has held two visiting research appointments in Japan.
