Prescott, acting lead of the Biochemistry and Biophysics Department here since bst August, has been named lead of that department. Dr. H. O. Kunkel, dean of the College of Agriculture, said the jew department head has served is a full time member of the A&M staff for more than 18 years and as a professor for the past 10 years. “Dr. Prescott has demonstrat ed exceptional capability and dedication to the development of quality programs in biochemistry and biophysics and in the han dling of department matters,” the dean pointed out. Kunkel said the biochemist is widely noted for his research in the chemistry and metabolism of amino acids and proteins. His “stature and prestige as a scien tist are evidenced by a long record of projects funded by the Robert A. Welch Foundation, U. S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, and the Manned Space craft Center of the National Aeronautics and Space Adminis tration.” Prescott was born in San Marcos, Texas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Prescott, Sr. He received a BS degree in chem istry in 1941 from Southwest Texas State College, the MS de gree in biochemistry and nutri tion in 1949 at Texas A&M, and his doctorate in biochemistry in 1952 at the University of Wis consin. Regalia for the May 1969 Commencement Exercise All students who are candidates for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Education are required to order hoods as well as the Doctor’s cap and gowns. The hoods are to be left at the Registrar's Office no later than 1 :00 p.m., Tuesday, May 20 (this will be accomplished by representative of the University Exchan Store). The Ph.D. or D.Ed. hoods will not be worn in the procession since all such candidates will be hooded on the stage as part of the ceremony. Candidates for the Master’s Degree will wear the cap and gown ; all civilian stu dents who are candidates for the Bachelor’s Degree will wear the cap and gown ; ROTC students who are candidates for the Bach elor’s Degree will wear the appropriate uniform. All military personnel who are candidates for the degrees, graduate or undergraduate, will wear the uniform only. Rental of caps and gowns may be arranged with the Exchange Store. Orders may be placed between 8:00 a.m., Monday, April 28, and 12 :00 noon, Saturday, May 10. The rental is as follows: Doctor’s cap and gown, $7.54 ; Master’s cap and gown, $7.02. Hood rental is the same as that for the cap and gown. Sales tax is included in the rental price. Payment is required at the time of placing order. Baccalaureate regalia will no longer be available on a rental basis, but the cap and gown may be purchased at the Ex change Store beginning May 1. The pur chase price is $6.34, including tax. Time of the presentation was changed to avoid conflict with the Ma roon-White football game. Story of a stranger who is mistreated when he visits a make-believe kingdom, the play will feature Aggie Players Di rector C. K. Esten and his wife Lugean in a cast of nine. Also in “Simple Simon” will be A&M students Jeanette Roger of Hebbronville as the pieman; Karen Buckland, El Paso, execu tioner; Michelle.
