WAITING FOR THE WHITE KNIGHTS? Ivan Jones, 23, ponders the question of which detergent is stronger than dirt and will get marooner maroons and whiter whites. Four engineering seniors re ceived achievement awards in Col lege of Engineering special award ceremonies recently. Engineering Dean Fred J. Ben son presented plaques to Robert A. Beene of Big Spring, Frank E. Berngen of Chillieothe, Thomas D. Edgar of Lake Jackson, and Walter E. Haisler Jr. of Temple. Dr. Everett Glazener, Selection Committee chairman, noted nom inations for honors were made by the 10 departments and School of Architecture. He said emphasis in selections was on scholastics, military and extra curricular activities. Glazener said the College of En gineering has 749 seniors. Beene, an electrical engineering major, is a cadet colonel and deputy commander of the 3,000- man Corps of Cadets. A distin guished student five semesters, Beene has a 2.71 grade point ratio on a 3.0 scale. He is a member of the Ross Volunteers, Senior Class representative to the Memorial Student Center Council, and a member of the Student Senate. He is listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universi ties and Colleges. Berngen, an industrial educa tion major, is president of the Texas A&M Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. Listed in Who’s Who Among Stu dents in American Universities and Colleges, he is a member of the Engineers Council and the A&M Chapter of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers. He has a 2.17 GPR. Edgar, a chemical engineering major with a 2.43 GPR, has been a distinguished student five semesters and is a distinguished military student. He is a cadet lieutenant colonel and executive officer of the 2nd Brigade. Vice president of the A&M Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Edgar is listed in Who’s Who Among Stu dents in American Universities and Colleges. He is a member of the Ross Volunteers. Haisler, a distinguished student for four semesters, has a 2.81 GPR in aerospace engineering and has served as secretary of Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Gamma Tau, scholastic fraternities. He is a member of the Engineers Council, Intercouncil Committee, A&M Chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and A&M Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.
