Communications Training Center at Texas A&M’s Research Annex, travels some 24,000 miles a year to assist 22 telephone coopera tives in Texas. The King of the Road title is hard-earned. Hall makes a lot of stops. About every six weeks he conducts training programs for each of the co-ops. He calls on each co-op eight times a year. From Gilmer in the east, to Raymondville in the south, west ward to Muleshoe, Hereford in the north, and Vernon to the northeast, Hall teaches principles of electricity and applied elec tricity. His job is to help cooperative employees qualify for more ad vanced telephone training courses at A&M’s Telephone Training Center, a division of the Engi neering Extension Service. When he’s not teaching, the veteran telephoneman confers with plant superintendents, help ing strength supervisory skills and discussing training and job problems. A native of Lohn, near Brady, Hall has headed A&M’s itinerant telephone training program for almost five years during which times he averages 175 days and nights away from home base in Bryan. Hall conducts a plant school telephone ceminar att he A&M Research Annex every year. This year’s seminar is scheduled in December under sponsorship of telephone cooperatives. The King has 12 years experi ence with telephone cooperative programs. An Air Force veteran, he attended the USAF Radio Repair School. He also studied petroleum engineering at Schrien- er Institute, Tarleton State Col lege and the Universtiy of Texas. With increasing demands for his services, Hall has switched to a sleek sports car in an effort to retain his King of the Road crown. DECORATED AND RETIRED Sgt. Maj. Clair E. David S. Kung o fToky: gathered the kites, a representa tion of the old Japanese kit/ craftsmen’s art. The delicately shaded, bolii colored kites are designed in th form of birds, insects, square and diamonds depicting tradi tional warriors in one of three kinds, pattern, picture or char acter. At Japan’s kite-makitj; peak, the flying bits of bamboo and paper were made for charms, fairs, festivals, fortune-telling and aerial combat. “There is a meaningful story and purpose behind each design," Romieniec added. He noted the exhibit is available from Kl Galleries for display. Swingline PiiZZIfMENt [ 1 ] Do they have a 4th of July in England?
