All are from Bryan- College Station. Participants were welcomed by President Earl Rudder during a luncheon at the Memorial Stu dent Center. Dr. Robert J. Lun degand, head of Logistics and Mathematical Statistics Division, Office of Naval Research, Wash ington, D. C., will also address the group. Other seminar speakers include Dr. H. O. Hartley, director of A&M’s Gfaduate Institute of Statistics; Will Jones, Service Bureau Corporation, Houston; Thomas F. Woods of NASA’s Computation and Analysis Divi sion, Houston; Dr. James M. Nash, assistant professor of in dustrial engineering, and Dr. Richard E. Wainerdi, head of A&M’s Activation Analysis Lab oratory. Lt. Col. A. R. Burgess, USAR, professor of industrial engineer ing; Dr. John D. Randall, direc tor of the Nuclear Science Cen ter; Dr. Worth Nowlin, assistant professor of oceanography; Dr. Richard S. Ballance, manager of advance computer systems, IBM Corp.; Dr. Donald R. Drew, asso ciate professor of civil engineer ing, and H. D. Attra, Humble Oil and Refining Co., Houston, also will speak. O. Hartley, institute director. Dr. C. E. Gates, formerly pro fessor and experiment station statistician at the University of Minnesota, will be professor of statistics. He joined Minnesota in 1956. Gates earned the Ph.D. in ex perimental statistics from North Carolina State University. He has an M.S. from North Carolina State and a B.S. in horticulture from Iowa State University. Named assistant professors are Dr. Lyle D. Broemeling and Dr. Larry J. Ringer. Broemeling earned three degrees, including the doctorate in mathematical statistics at Texas A&M. Ring- er’s doctorate in statistics is also from A&M, with two degrees from Iowa State University. William Boyce Smith and P. Larry Claypool are new instruc tors. Smith has an M.S. degree in statistics from A&M and the B.S. degree from Lamar State College of Technology. Claypool earned the M.A. in statistics at the University of Missouri and the B.S. from Southwest Mis souri State College.
