Five faculty additions to the
Institute of Statistics have been
announced by Dr. H. O. Hartley,
institute director.
Dr. C. E. Gates, formerly pro
fessor and experiment station
statistician at the University of
Minnesota, will be professor of
statistics. He joined Minnesota
in 1956.
Gates earned the Ph.D. in ex
perimental statistics from North
Carolina State University. He
has an M.S. from North Carolina
State and a B.S. in horticulture
from Iowa State University.
Named assistant professors are
Dr. Lyle D. Broemeling and Dr.
Larry J. Ringer. Broemeling
earned three degrees, including
the doctorate in mathematical
statistics at Texas A&M. Ring-
er’s doctorate in statistics is also
from A&M, with two degrees
from Iowa State University.
William Boyce Smith and P.
Larry Claypool are new instruc
tors. Smith has an M.S. degree
in statistics from A&M and the
B.S. degree from Lamar State
College of Technology. Claypool
earned the M.A. in statistics at
the University of Missouri and
the B.S. from Southwest Mis
souri State College.
The appointees are members of
professional societies and have
published articles in learned
journals.
