All registrations must be made n person with $4 charged for residents and $8 for non-resi- lents. Beginning swimmers must be at east six years old and are re tired to be 51 inches tall or ible to swim 30 feet. Meeting twice weekly the com petitive swimming program will ie carried on at three levels. The pre-competitive division is ipen to children under ten years ild who can swim 60 feet, junior tompetitive for 10-12 year-olds and senior competitive for the 13- group. Sponsored by the College Sta- !ion Recreation Council, the pro gram’s instructor will be A&M swimming coach Art Adamson. Anyone interested in participa ting may obtain further informa tion council representatives Mrs. I, W. Amyz, Mrs. George Mc Arthur or Mrs. Matt Nowak. 7 Cadets Receive Army Grants Seven of Texas’ 79 two-year Army ROTC scholarships have teen awarded to Texas A&M sophomores. Col. D. L. Baker, Professor of Military Science, announced the grants. Each scholarship covers tui tion and fees for two years, pro vides an annual book budget of ilOO and a $50 per month sub sistence allowance. Cadets may select any course of study. Upon graduation each will be com missioned a second lieutenant in either the Regular Army or the Army Reserve and will serve a four-year active duty tour. Winners include two men from San Antonio: Frank H. Robbins Jr. and Robert F. Gonzales. Others are Randall R. Myers, Houston; Joseph P. Webber, Waco; Eldon G. Tipping, Snyder; Henry M. Rollings, Mobile, Ala., and John Morgan, Fort Bragg, N. C. Institute participants from within a 50-mile radius of College Station will primarily be lower elementary grade and jun ior high teachers. TEACHERS., completing the course will earn six hours of col lege undergraduate credit. Psy chology 634, Principles of Human Growth and Development, and Education 6104, Psychological Foundations of Reading Disabili ty, will be adapted for institute use, Varvel added. Classes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be held in the Military Sci ence Building. Small group dis cussions, films, videotape and consultants will be employed in instruction in psychology, so ciology, education and language problems. They received certificates for scholar ship and participation in university activi ties. Honorees from left, are Lloyd D. Ptak of Fort Lewis, Wash., chemistry; Thomas M. Lunsford of Lake Jackson, zoology; Lance H. Cobb of Fort Worth, physics, and John C. McKinney of Crane, mathematics. Dr. Vergil G. Stover, an ex perienced teacher and researcher in traffic engineering and trans portation planning, will join the Highway Design and Traffic En gineering Department of the Tex as Transportation Institute and the Transporatation Engineering and Transportation Science Divi sion of the Department of Civil Engineering June 1. The announcement was made jointly by Prof. Charles J. Keese, executive officer of TTI, and Dr. Charles H. Samson, department head. Stover received the Bachelor of Science degree in civil engi neering and commerce at Ohio State in 1958. He received MS and Ph.d degrees in Transporta tion Engineering from Purdue in 1960 and 1963, respectively. Technical societies and organi zations of which he is a member include the Institute of Traffic Engineers, Sigma Xi, the South Carolina Planning Association the Regional Science Association, and the American Society for Engineering Education. STOVER IS also a member of the Highway Safety Committee of the Highway Research Board and a registered professional en gineer. He has served on the Greater Columbia Safety Com mittee and as technical advisor to the South Carolina Traffic Safe ty Council. In his work at A&M he will participate in TTI research proj ects involving traffic assignment conducted cooperatively with the Texas Highway Department and the U. S. Bureau of Public Roads.
