Singleton is a member of the football team and will be a senior next fall. Other officers elected were Dick Rector, vice president; Don nie Ayres, secretary-treasurer; Arie Britt, publicity officer; and Ed Breeding, sergeant-of-arms. Rectors will be a senior next fall and is a member of the bas ketball squad. Ayers is a track squad member and will be a sen ior. Britt will be a senior and member of the track team, while Breeding plays football and will be a senior. The “T” Association is com posed of athletes who have let tered in a sport at A&M. Tom Gramly, TCU’s tall, talented righthander, was selected Southwest Conference baseball “Player of the Year’’ by The Battalion editors Tuesday. Gramly, who finished the year with a 4-0 shutout over Texas A&M Saturday and a 9-2 pitching record, edged out teammate Jimmy Duffey for the top honor. The talented righthander, with a little luck which was required this year to win the conference title, could have finished without a defeat in his pitching record. He suf fered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the lucky Texas Long horns and was barely beaten by Baylor. A&M’s Lou Camilli, sophomore third baseman from El Paso, was a unanimous selection as “Sophomore of the Year” and Texas coach Bibb Falk captured “Coach of the Year” honors. Both honors were well earned. Camilli, the Aggies’ top hitter and highly sought by every major league team, displayed excellent ability around the “hot corner” and his switch hitting ability made him an excellent leadoff batter. M Of course Falk was the prime choice for coaching honors. Nobody expected the Longhorns to be in conten tion for the title but when all the dust and coin flipping had settled there was Texas as the conference representative to the NCAA playoffs. On paper the Longhorns did not have anything, but like Falk said, “The game is not played on paper.” I Besides the top three honors. The Battalion also select ed a 15-man all-SWC team which consisted of six un animous selections. The unanimous choices were Billy Crain, A&M, first base; Duffey, TCU, second base; Parke Davidson, TCU, short stop; Camilli, A&M, third base; Ronnie Waldo, Rice, outfield; and Gramly, TCU, pitcher. Pitching and selection of outfielders were the most competitive spots. Five conference pitchers received two or more votes from the selection committee, while six out fielders were named on the ballots. Other pitchers besides Gramly on the team were A&M’s Steve Hillhouse and Rice’s Ray Hooten. Because of a tie in the voting, two outfielders were selected as utility men and Joe Staple of A&M and James Scheschuk of Texas will have to share the catching post, TCU’s Mickey Yates and Texas’ Gary Moore will flank Waldo in The Batt’s outfield, while A&M’s Alan Koonce and Baylor’s Dan Looper were selected as late innings replacements. Texas Forrest Boyd captured the utility infielder post. Others receiving votes were Dennie Denbow of SMI! for utility infielder and Baylor coach Dutch Schroeder for coaching honors.
