At that time an idea began to form in the back of my mind: the idea that perhaps at tention was being directed at the wrong group of fish. Reassured by remarks made at a meeting last week, I took a good, hard look at my own out fit. I saw two distinct groups. In one group I saw those leaving •—people without the backbone or guts or maturity required to live the Corps life. “I think you’ll be glad to know that we’ll be driving at a safe speed on th’ way home!” Naturally, there were excep tions; some of those leaving had financial problems, some had oth er legitimate excuses for drop ping out but this situation occurs every year. The majority of those leaving the Corps this year have no real reason for leaving. They just don’t have what it takes to make the grade. They are the type who will make ex cellent civilian students. Then I took a good look at those remaining in the Corps. I admit I was shocked, pleasantly shocked. What a difference. I saw people who were spirited, intelligent, active, fun-loving. I saw the same thing that I vis ualize when the term “Aggie fish” is mentioned. I saw people learning to stand up for what they feel is right, people realiz ing that this world is not all blue jeans, long haircuts and beards, people learning not to make ex cuses for their mistakes but rath er to accept their punishment and not make that mistake again, people who still respect their par ents and elders, and most import ant of all, people who came to A&M boys but are boys no longer because they are young men. I don’t claim they are ready to take their places in the world. Certainly not, but I do claim that when the time comes for these people to take their sta tions in life, they will be ready. I wish them the best of every thing. To the quitters, I wish nothing. Terry C. Aglietti ’67 First Sergeant, Company B-2 PEANUTS 03^ By Charles M. Schulz CAN VOU IMAGINE THOSE 10)0 &IRD&?
