Page 6 College Station, Texas Tuesday, February 2, 1965 THE BATTALK Grad Planning Consultant For JFK Gravesite Harold L. Adams, a 1962 A&M graduate, was recently selected as the planning consultant for the permanent grave of the late President John F. Kennedy. The Aggie ex, a native of Pal mer, Texas, and presently a staff member of John C. Warnecke and Associates, a Washington architectural firm, has also re ceived several other assignments from the Kennedy family. Adams has also been named planning consultant for the pro posed Kennedy Memorial Li brary. Past assignments include the designing of the Lafayette Square Project, a $30 million de velopment of Lafayette Park and two blocks of historic buildings across from the White House. While working on this project, Adams was chos en to design and supervise c o n - struction of a adams four-story addi tion to the home of the then At torney General Robert F. Ken nedy. Several major problems faced Adams and his associates with the Kennedy grave. First of all, the site was still simply a grave and had to be treated as such. The monuments should reflect the Presidential office but not evaluate Kennedy or his pro grams. Adequate provisions had to be made for visitors and cere monies, and the grave had to re flect the strong relationship be tween the Lincoln Memorial giv en by its location and should complement the overlooking Lee- Custis Mansion. The final design has been de cided upon and now Adams must follow it to completion, scheduled for 1966. Before his present assignment Adams had been securing infor mation on the existing presiden tial libraries for a report used as the basis for the Kennedy Li brary. He attended meetings in May with Jacqueline Kennedy and other architects involved in designing the library. The job for Robert Kennedy’s house involved living as well as working with the attorney gen eral and his wife, their eight children and numerous pets. At A&M Adams was a dis tinguished student and editor of “Architect Plus.” He also re ceived several awards for his out standing designs. KENNEDY GRAYESITE . . aerial view of grave plan.
