UH In Debut AGGIE CAGE COACH Shelby Metcalf faces Houston in debut. The 1963-64 Aggie basketball team swings into action Thursday against the University of .Houston Cougars in G”. Rollie White Coli seum. Tip-off time is 8 p.m. for the Cadets’ debut under new head coach Shelby Metcalf. The^ 33- year-old ex-Fish coach took over when Bob Rogers resigned last spring. The loss of four starters and three of the top four scorers from last season’s 16-8 squad leaves A&M with many question marks as opening night approaches. But the only starter returning just happens to be the 1962-63 South west “Player of the Year,” SWC scoring co-champion with Kendall Rhine of Rice and holder of five school records. Bennie Lenox, 6-2, 170-pound guard, will take the floor as cap tain of the A&M Cagers against the Cougars. The “Lynx” will be one of two seniors in the Aggie first unit. Bill Robinette, 6-7, 180- pounder, will be at forward. The other forward will be jun ior college transfer Bill Gasway, 6-6, while either Lynn Merritt, 6-5, or Dick Stringfellow, 6-4, will hold down the other guard slot. The center will be soph John Beasley, 6-8, or Tim Timmerman, 6-7. The Aggie Fish will open their season in the preliminary against Lon Morris Junior College. The freshmen also have a new coach, Archie Porter, formerly of Dallas Jefferson.
