THE BATTALION Page 8 College Station, Texas Thursday, October 24, 1963 FROM THE Sidelined By JIM BUTLER Due to the overwhelming acclaim given the Battalion football predictions last week by such notables as Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope, Lassie and Rin-Tin-Tin, it has been decided to continue the forecasts in the same vein. It isn’t without a somewhat prideful tone that we boast of our first perfect record of the season—0-10. However, we received a slight scare when Southern Cal actually did score a safety. So this week will find the scores a little more difficult to match. Vanderbilt 4, Mississippi 0: Johnny Reb’s sputtering offense finally gets moving, in the wrong direction—twice. Tulane 4, Georgia Tech 0: A Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech is a helluvan engineer and a good poker player and a great slipstick operator and sometimes wins football games but not against Tulane. Stanford 4, Notre Dame 0: The Irish have had a lot of tough luck this season and we see no reason for it to stop now. California 4, USC 0: Both teams get lost in the smog and end up in Tijuana which naturally gives the victory to the Golden Bears. Houston 4, Alabama 0: A rolling Crimson Tide gathers no Cougars. Tulsa 4, Arkansas 0: Frank Broyles loves to schedule easy teams and one of these days, one of these days . . . Rice 4, Texas 0: The Owls give the Longhorns the Royal route to defeat. Idle 4, TCU 0: The Frog’s opponent this week was not discussed in any football magazines we could find so they must have some secret weapon to beat TCU. A&M 4, Baylor 0: If the highly-touted Kingston Trio can flop, so can the more highly-touted Don Trull. FACTS, MAN, FACTS! Baylor Aerial Artist Brings Passing Wizardry To A&M Don Trull, the passing magician from up Waco way who slings footballs through the air with the greatest of ease, will try his bag of aerial maneuvers on the Aggies Saturday afternoon at Kyle Field. Tabbed by many as one of the finest passers in the country, the 6-1, 179-pounder is blessed with a very quick arm and an excellent sense of timing. Coach John Bridg ers calls Trull, “the finest college passer in the nation.” LEADING the nation in 1962 with 125 completions, Don now has six games left to better his old rec ord. He has currently completed 70 passes of 114 for 893 yards and six touchdowns. . r »«. There are no words around to describe the tremendous feats which Trull has accomplished this year and the fantastic thing about that is the Bears, led by their il lustrious passer still have six more opponents to meet. IN THE opening game of the year against the University of Houston, Don apparently had first game jitters as he completed only 14 passes for 144 yards which helped set up two touchdowns. Get ting the grip on things the next weekend (namely the pigskin), Trull made Oregon State wish he wouldn’t have come west as he con nected on 16 for 246 yards and one touchdown. In top notch form against the Razorbacks of Arkansas, Trull had his best night. Taking over where Sandy Koufax left off, Trull engi neered 21 completions for 241 yards and two very important touchdowns. Injuring his arm in the Arkansas game one could never tell it the next weekend in Lub bock when he completed 19 for 262 yards and three touchdowns. Trull has a commanding lead in the passing department of the Southwest Conference with his 70 completions covering 893 yards.
