LOU POTS North Gate U.S.D.A. Official Named Speaker Dr. M. R. Clarkson, associate administrator of the U. S. De partment of Agriculture’s Agri cultural Research Service, will be one of the main speakers at the A&M Century Study Convocation here Nov. 16. Clarkson will talk on “Veterinary Medicine — Our Responsibility to the Future” during the School of Veterinary Medicine portion of the overall convocation program. The convocation will honor form er students and members of the Century Council. The Century Council is a group of 100 Texans who recently completed recom mendations for A&M’s future ob jectives. Clarkson is a native of Ferndale, Wash. He holds BS and DVM de grees from Washington State Uni versity and an LDB degree from Georgetown University. He is a re cipient of the USDA’s Distinguish ed Service Award and the 12th International Veterinary Congress Prize. The veterinarian is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the American Veteri nary Medical Association and other scientific and professional soci eties. Morning sessions of the Convo cation will include an open house and speakers in the schools of engineering, agriculture, arts and sciences and veterinary medicine. The afternoon program includes the main convocation, at which James E. Webb, administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, will be the prin cipal speaker. Also on the program will be a report from the A&M Boax-d of Directors. The document will pre sent goals and aspirations of the college through its 100th year of service in 1976. DR. M. R. CLARKSON AMONG THE PROFS Groneman Asked To Pen References Dr. Chris H. Groneman, head of the Department of Industi’ial Edu cation has been invited to serve as a contributing author for the “Encyclopedia Amexucana.” He will provide materials in the fields of woodwork, plywood and veneer for a revision of the “A- mericana.” Groneman has pi'epar- ed materials on these three topics, supplemented with suitable illus trative and photographic materials. ★ ★ ★ Dr. I. W. Rupel, head of the De partment of Dairy Science,- is at- Four Students Win Grants From Petroleum Companies Three winners of American Oil Co. scholarships have been an nounced by Dr. James D. Lindsay, head of the Department of Chem ical Engineering. Recipients of the $250 awards to chemical engineering students are: Larry Maddox, sophomore from College Station, who is a member of Squadron 15. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Maddox Jr., 1002 Munson. He is a member of Phi Eta Sigma and has been de signated a distinguished student two semesters. Gary D. Schroeder, of Grand Px-airie is also among the winners. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Schroeder and a member of Tau Beta Pi, national engineering scholastic society. He is also a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Richard E. Rubac of Temple is the other winner. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil M. Rubac and a member of Phi Eta Sigma and the American Institute of Chemi cal Engineers. He has been de signated a distinguished student two semesters. Another chemical engineering major, John C. Holliman of Dallas, has been named recipient of the $500 Lubrizol Corp. scholarship. Holliman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Holliman, has been named a distinguished student four semesters and is a member of Phi Eta Sigma. He is also a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Squad ron 9. Dr. Wayne C. Hall, dean of the Graduate School, said Tuesday. The seminar for engineering students will be held Nov. 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the lecture room of the Geology Building. The arts and sciences seminar will be conducted Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ball Room of the MSC. tending the annual Dairy Indust ries Exposition at Atlantic City, N. J. President of the American Dairy Science Association, Rupel is visit ing the exposition’s annual con ventions of the Milk Industry Foundation, International Associa tion of Ice Cream Manxxfacturex-s, National Association of Retail Ice Cream Manufacturers and the Dairy Industries Supply Associa tion. Rupel said more than 20,000 per sons from evei’y state and many foreign countries are participating in the event. Timm, head of the Department of Agricultural Econ omics and Sociology, discussed the European Common Market at a luncheon meeting Wednesday in Houston. The Houston Chamber of Com merce Agriculture Comx-nittee and guests heard the economist talk on probable ECM effects upon Gulf Coast production of cattle, cotton, feed grains and rice. Timm is an international auth ority on agricultural economics. Last summex', he headed a task force of American economists on a tour of Europe to study the Com mon Market.
