Buy three new buses. Set up annual replacement plan. Grounds Prepare master plan of build ing sites, playgrounds, drainage, streets, and parking areas. Improve grounds to reduce dust in elementary areas, and institute a continuing maintenance program. Plan and carry out street, park ing, and drainage improvements in co-operation with the City. Provide parking areas for the high school auditorium. Financial Estimated total capital cost of program: $540,000. Can be carried by voting Senate Bill and by increasing valuations slightly. Can be voted all at once or in increments. Committee will sup port either of several plans. Necessary annual budget from local funds would be about $196,- 000, compared to $140,000 last year. This amount would require a tax rate of $1.90 on present valuations, a 36% increase. The committee recommends an immediate increase to this rate. Sul Ross Lodge Installs Officers Charles J. (Pack) Keese was in stalled as worshipful master of Sul Ross Lodge No. 1300, A.F. & A.M., College Station, for the en suing Masonic year at a recent meeting of the lodge. Other officers installed were Calvin W. Trossen, senior warden; Truman R. Jones, junior warden; Walter S. Manning, treasurer; Joe J. Woolket, secretary; Bennie A. Zinn, chaplain; Paul Jungerman, marshal; John W. Huff, senior deacon; John H. Milliff, junior deacon; John W. Tippit, senior steward; Richard Callan, junior steward; and C. Judson Goodwin, tiler. C. H. Ransdell, immediate past master, served as installing offi cer, and A1 B. Nelson served as installing marshal. Foundation Given $17,000 Grant The A&M Research Foundation has received a $17,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to support research in the Depart ment of Oceanography and Mete orology. The grant will support a two- year study of the reef environ ments and the carbonate deposits of Campeche Bank for a better understanding of the relationship of the deposits, biology and the water mass. Dr. R. G. Bader, associate pro fessor of oceanography, • is the principal investigator, and Brian Logan, a research scientist in the department, is the associate in vestigator. During the course of the study, two or three trips a year will be made to the Campeche Bank off the coast of the Yucatan Penin sula. P. L. Downs Jr. Ill in Hospital P. L. PLANE UMBRELLA NEW YORK (A 5 )—The world’s largest steel-ribbed umbrella will serve as a terminal for Pan Amer ican World Airways at New York International Airport. Thirty-two rib girders will ra diate from the center core of the umbrella-like structure, said Thom as R. Mullen, whose Lehigh Struc tural Steel Company of Allentown, Pa., will fabricate and erect the eight million dollar structure. The roof will be four acres in area. Mullen said the largest of the girders will be 224 feet long and weight 75 tons. Local Swimmers To Enter Contest At Tyler Saturday A team of 12 local swimmers under the banner of the College Station Swim Club will leave Sat urday morning for Tyler to com pete in the Texas Amateur Ath letic Federation State Champion ship swimming meet.
