The asphalt screenings, present ly a waste product, are from crushing operations. Two million tons of the screenings are stock piled at mines in the Uvalde area. Associate Research Engineer Bob M. Gallaway, principal inves tigator for the study, will seek to determine the beneficial effects of rock asphalt* screenings on hot mix asphaltic concrete made from marginal aggregates. Oceanography and Meteorology Department Scientists From Six Continents Work Together Here to Solve Mysteries A global attack on nature’s mysteries is being made by scien tists of six continents, working together at A&M. They are striving to solve some of the world’s great problems of the oceans, atmosphere, climate and how man’s life ties to nature’s whims. These scientists, coming from every inhabited continent on. earth, are members of the, research and teaching staff of A&M’s Depart ment of Oceanography and Meteor ology. Some are of international prom inence. Several headed the marine laboratories in their countries be fore joining the team of scien tists on the campus. Typical of these foreign-born scientists is Dr. Basil Wilson, a native of Cape Town South Africa. Educated at the University of Capetown and at the University of Illinois, he has a dual job in the department. He does graduate teaching on the subject of ocean waves and the engineering aspects fo oceanogra phy, and is conducting research on forecasting of ocean waves, deep water mooring of ships, harbor surging and hurricane wave sta tistics. Another is Dr. K. M. Rae who hails from Edinburgh, Scotland. Before coming to A&M as director of marine laboratories, he was head of the Scottish Marine Bio logical Laboratory at Edinburgh and prior to that was head of the Department of Oceanography at the University College of Hull in England. Rae is supervising research pro jects in the Mississippi Delta to determine the effects of man-made structures on marine life. The department’s scientific ac tivities from aboard research ves sels are coordinated by a Canadian, Dr. John Hugh McLellan. Born at Sydney, Nova Scotia, he is a for mer member of the physics faculty at Dalhousie University in Hali fax, and before coming to A&M, he was the oceanographer in charge, Atlantic Oceanographic Group, Fisheries Research Board of Canada. McLellan headed a research party that just completed a month long cruise on the research vessel Hidalgo in connection with a pro ject for the U. S. Navy and the National Science Foundation. On this project a survey was made to determine a good location to drill through the earth’s crust. An Englishman on the depart ment staff is Commander John Rawson Lumby whose position is that of director of International Geophysical Year World Data Center A, one of two such world centers. He did oceanographic work for the British government for about 30 years and before com ing to A&M he was head of the Hydrographic Section of the Lowestoft Fisheries Laboratory. He is a lieutenant commander in the British Navy. Summer Sale LADIES DRESSES SKIRTS & BLOUSES STARTS 10th of July Leon B. Rounding out the list of foreign- born scientists are three from Ja pan, Dr. Yoshikazu Sasaki, Dr. Mitsunobu Tatsumoto and Dr. Kinjiro Kajiura. At such moments, children seem like echoes of God’s love. In their own boundless joy, with their unquenchable enthusiasm, they point the way to truth, love, faith and beauty. It is a way all of us can follow. By turn ing to God with a child’s simplicity, by seek ing Him through the Church, we can emerge from life’s shadows and stand again in the full light of eternal truth. Find your way to church * . . this Sunday. 4 Copyright I9S9, KeiHet Adv. Service, Strasburf, V*. THE CHURCH FOR ALL ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civiliza tion can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should at tend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children’s sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
