Teaching Award Awards Given To Six Profs For Top Work Six A&M professors were pre sented awards for faculty achieve ment in ^ program in Guion Hall last week. Dr. John H. Milliff, head of the Department of Veterinary Medi cine; Dr. Wendell H. Nedderman, professor of civil/ engineering; Dr. Rudolph E. Leighton,, professor of dairy science and Roy M. Wingren, professor of mechanical engineer ing won the outstanding classroom teacher’s awards. Each teaching citation stated, “In recognition of his ability personali ty and methods which have resulted in distinguished achievements in the teaching and in the inspiration of his students”. J. H. G. Thompson, professor of mechanical engineering, won the student relations award, which stated, “In recognition and in ap preciation of his unselfish and sympathetic interest in the wel fare of individual students which has been helpful and inspiring.” Henry J. Reinhard, professor of entomology, won the research award, which stated, “In recogni tion and appreciation of his dis tinguished achievement in research performed in addition to his duties as a teacher." The joint conference will in clude the 34th annual meeting of the Texas Assn, of County Super intendents, the 23rd annual meet ing of the Texas School Adminis tration Assn, and the ninth an nual meeting of the Texas Assn, for Instructional Supervisors. W. F. Hancock of Cuero is presi dent of the Texas Assn, of County Superintendents, Fred W. Hunter of Beaumont is president of the Texas School Administration Assn, and John M. Stuart of Baytown is president of the Texas Assn, for Instructional Supervisors. The general assembly for the three groups will be held in the ballroom of the Memorial Student Center at 8:45 a. m. on June 15. Dr. John B. Page, dean of the col lege, will give the welcome talk. The principal address, entitled “Change, Social and Economic Forces, and the Future,” will be de livered by Robert M. Isenberg, as sistant secretary of the Depart ment of Rural Education of the National Education Assn, in Wash ington, D. C. Other conference speakers will be Alexander Frazier, director of the University School at Ohio State University; Hollis Moore, Tyler Public Schools superinten dent, Commissioner of Education for the Texas Education Agency; and L. P. Sturgeon, director of the Division of Public Relations for the Texas State Teachers Assn. Austin. The industry-operated Tree Farm program is now active in 46 states. The system is a Calrod custom background system and has been installed in the waiting room. Mrs. Hal Parks, secretary of the club, initiated the idea. Two Freshmen Get Chemistry Awards Two students in freshman chem istry have received awards based on their performance during the 1958-59 school year. Robert W. Timme, Rt. 1, Vic toria, won the Dow Chemical Freshman Scholarship in Chemis try. This award carries a stipend of $200. Timme had previously re ceived the National Honor Society of Texas Chemical Council awai'd. He plans to major in physics and has maintained a 2.3 grade point ratio. A copy of the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics goes to Robert K. Wright of 4126 Blue bonnet, Houston. He is majoring in aeronautical engineering and has maintained a 2.56 grade point ratio.
