Workout times are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 3 or 3:30 p.m. Because of the rugged spring training last April Myers doesn’t plan on any heavy work this fall. “We won’t have as much con tact as we had this spring,” the new Aggie coach revealed, “but we expect to have our players in top physical condition.” Corps Housing List Announced for Fall Corps outfit-housing lists for this year have been completed, the Housing Office has announced. Track Coach Inks 13 Future Stars Thirteen track prospects, in cluding two state champions, have accepted athletic scholarships to A&M according to Charley Thom as, new Aggie track coach. Members of Thomas’ first Aggie frosh cinder team will include George Neely Wolffarth of Semi nole, Class A half-mile champion and James Nixon, Class AA shot put champ from Freeport. Other future Aggies will be Lar ry Pike of Farwell, second in the Class B low hurdles and a sprinter; Bob Bryant of Galveston and Thad- is Crooks of Hooks, half-milers; Don Evans of Fort Worth and Robert Salaiz of San Antonio Jeff- ei’son, quarter-milers; Gail Allen McDaniel, pole vaulter from Hemp hill; Lynn Walters of Galena Park, shot put; Ralph Williams of Ter rell, distance man; Frank Schmalz- teig of Sinton, sprinter and Milers Malcolm Hardeen of Groveton and Thomas Johnson of Franklin. Thomas, former all-America sprinter from University of Texas, has coached at East Texas State for the past three years. The Aggies of 1958 will be short on experience although 16 return ing lettermen will be on hand. Only three full-time starters*- of 1957 return. They are end John Tracey, tackle Ken Beck and back Richard Gay. All are senior two- year lettermen. Gone are 14 lettermen including eight starters, among them All- Americans John Crow and Charles Krueger. Key to Aggie success this fall will be sophomores and castoffs. Ed Dudley and Luther Hall, both of whom played in 1955 and 1956, return after missing the 1957 cam paign and Myers is counting heavi ly on their backfield help. Dudley, senior from Pampa, is battling Charley Milstead at tailback while Hall is running at fullback behind Gordon LeBoeuf, junior letterman from Port Neches. Milstead is a Tyler junior, who was the No. 2 T quarterback last fall. At the close of spring training sophomores were all by themselves at left or weakside end and wing- back. Ralph Smith of Phillips, Jack Estes of Olton and Travis Nevill of Bryan all are left end candi dates while Jon Few of Midlothian and Randy Sims of Houston, T halfbacks for the frosh last fall, are fighting for the starting wing- back job. Other sophomores figuring high in Myers’ plans are George Gray of Amarillo at tackle and Guards Carter Franklin of Kerens and Wayne Labar of Harlingen. Gay, Shreveport senior and Bill Cauthom, junior from Del Rio, are the blocking backs. At fullback behind LeBoeuf and Hall is Bob Sanders, letterman from Seadrift. Tracey of Philadelphia is the No. 1 i-ight or strongside end fol lowed by Don Smith, two-year let terman from Phillips and Byron Caruthers, junior squadman from Tyler. Caruthers played center in 1957. Beck is the only experienced in terior lineman of note. He’s a a senior.from Minden, La. Behind him at strongside tackle are Bill Darwin of Houston and Bill God win, Orangefield, both junior let termen. Robei*t Garner of Palestine, a junior non-letterman, is the No. 1 left tackle with Gray and Carl Luna of Garland behind him. Although there are four letter- men at guard none played much in 1957. They are Allen Goehring of San Marcos, Buddy Payne of Hous ton and Joe Munson of Angleton, all juniors and Tommy Howard, Galveston senior. Gale Oliver, junior letterman from Refugio and Soph Roy North- rup of Amarillo will be the top center candidiates. The Aggies will meet the press and photographers Tuesday morn ing, Sept. 4. This is the annual conference press day.
