The Galena Park senior heads the 13-man delegation Coach Ray Putnam is putting up against some of the best competition in the United States. Smallwood will be entered in the 100-yard dash and 440-yard relay, but it is his efforts in the broad jump that are expected to bring the Farmers their gold me dal. The distance-seeking jumper has won three of the four meets he has entered to date, including the star laden Border Olympics in Laredo, March 8. Smallwood holds the Southwest Conference record in his specialty with a leap of 25-1% in 1957. He has consistently jump ed over 24 feet this season. Ernesto Uribe, Aggie sprint ace, will also be favored to bring in points for the Cadets. Uribe is the only other Aggie to enter more than one event. The sophomore sprinter will run the high hurdles, century and the third leg of the sprint relay. His best event will be the high hurdles. Ronnie Kirkpatrick, Port Arthur junior, and Bill Palmer, Uvalde sophomore, will round out the four some in the 440-yard relay. They will run the first two legs of the event. Other Aggie entries: Henry Bonorden, shot put; Owen Hill, discus; Donnie Douglas, pole vault; Herb Carper, high hurdles; Bobby Carter, high jump; Freddy Dulock, two mile; Don Lewis, broad jump; and Charles Merka, high jump. The Aggies next meet will be against Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Houston in Houston April 2.
