T Sanderson Muzzles Bulldog Sluggers As Farmers Post Third Victory 7-1 The Battalion College Station (Brazos County), Texas Wednesday, March 12, 1958 PAGE 3 By GARY ROLLINS Two stingy Aggie pitchers com bined efforts yesterday afternoon to fire a nifty two-hitter as the Texas Aggies ripped Texas Luth eran’s Bulldogs, 7-1 for their third win against one defeat. Percy Sanderson, soph hurler from Nederland pitched one-hit ball for six full innings for the Aggies, being relieved by lanky Wayne Schaper, who went the rest of the route, also yielding but one hit. The Bulldogs drew first blood in the second inning, as second sacker Eddie Marburger was hit by a pitched ball and Roger Wilke tri pled down the right field line. Wilke slipped between third and home and was tagged out to retire the side. The Aggies struck back sharply in their half of the frame, however and tied it up at one run apiece. After Jim Smotherman had flied to short left field, Ed Dudley ad vanced to first on an error. He stole second and third on a wild toss from catcher. One wild pitch later, Dudley scooted across the dish with the tying run. In the fifth inning, the Farmers added an insurance run as Ralph Plumlee singled to left. Sanderson sacrificed him to second. J. B. Carroll then' lofted a long fly to right field, moving Plumlee £o third. Houchin walked, and on the double steal the toss to second base was wide for the cutoff play allowing Plumlee to score. In the seventh inning, Wayne Schaper reached first base on an error. Carroll walked, moving Schaper to second. Schaper was called out at third on an attempted steal. Houchin doubled down the right field line, advancing Carroll to third. Gary Herrington, stubby Aggie catcher, slapped a line sin gle to right field scoring two more Aggie runs. Cleanup hitter Jim Smotherman followed up with another single, scoring Herrington and advancing to third on an outfielder’s bobble. Dudley went down swinging for the second out. Patterson drew a walk, then leftfielder Lloyd Stone crack ed an infield single with Smother man scoring the fourth and final run. The Cadets will travel to Seguin this Saturday night for a return match with the Bulldogs.
