Mehaffey, the Houston St. Thomas graduate who cap tained the 1956-57 Aggie quintet, was a unanimous all-South- west Conference second team choice and scored 300 points for the season, second high for A&M despite injuries that kept him out of four games. “I feel very lucky that I’m getting the opportunity to play with the Hawks, whom I consider the best team in the NBA,” said Mehaffey. “It’ll be hard to make the team because their personnel doesn’t graduate like they do in college, but they have promised me every opportu nity and it will be left up to my ability.” Heavy Curved Brass For Final Review LOUFOT’S FOR LOCAL & LONG DISTANCE MOVING •% BEARD TRANSFER & STORAGE Ph. The Exchange Store Serving Texas Aggies Corps Baseball Sets Finals in Travis Park By FRED MEURER Corps baseball, successful for the first time at A&M this spring, will come to a booming finish next Tuesday night in Bryan’s Travis Park when the winners of the Air Force and Army Leagues meet in the championship “Tenth Man Bowl.” Representing the Army in the bowl will be the First Reg iment, Third Battalion, composed of Engineer, Ordnance and Transportation Corps outfits, who finished regular play with a perfect 6-0 record. The consolidated Air Force-Army Band placed second in the standing with a 4-2 record. Things aren’t that simple over in the Air Force League. Dead locked for first place 1 at the end of regular play are the 5th and 7th Groups, each owning a 5-1 re cord. A play-off game to decide the pennant winner will be play ed tonight at 8 in Travis Park. This game, and the championship game nexf week, will go a full sev en innings with no time limit. Both groups played their final game against the 6th Group, with the 5th shutting them ou t last week, 5-0, and the 7th tying things up by topping them 4-1 Tuesday night. In their only encounter this year, the 5th Group stomped the 7th Group, 8-3, so the play-off game is also a revenge match. This year’s baseball program was originally scheduled to go two rounds in each league, but a late start, foul weather and too many holidays forced play to be limited to one round. Admission to the championship game Tuesday will be ten cents, with proceeds to be stashed away for next year’s equipment. Friday night’s game will be free. Melvin Driskill, originator of 1957 Corps Baseball, announced a barbecue to thank umpires, coaches and managers sometime next week. Further announcements will be niade previous to that time.
