Religious Educator To Meet
With A&M Students, Chaplains
Robert S. Bates, assistant to
the director of student work for
the department of religious edu
cation of the United Christian
Missionary Society, will meet at
2 p.m. Sunday at the YMCA with
campus religious workers and stu
dents interested in attending the
Ecumenical Student Conference
Dec. 27-Jan. 1 at Oklahoma A&M
College.
Study subject for the confer
ence will be “Being the People
of God.”
A&M students already regis
tered are Burt Atcheson, Bill Ash-
burn, Frank Clark and Zilmar
Marcos. Chaplains attending are
the Rev. Roger Cilley, Episcopal;
the Rev. Charles Hall, Methodist;
and the Rev. Charles Workman,
Presbyterian.
Mr. Bates, in his position with
the United Christian Missionary
Society, serves Disciples Student
Fellowships at universities and
colleges throughout the United
States and Canada.
The society is an international
board administering Christian edu
cation and missions carried on co
operatively among churches of
Disciples of Christ. From offices
Robert S. Bates
in Indianapolis, it serves over
7,100 churches in North America,
missions in the United States and
11 other countries, and some 125
Disciples Student Fellowships.
Mr. Bates, born in Shanghai,
China, is a son of missionary par
ents. He received an A.B. degree
at Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio,
and a B.D. from Disciples Divin
ity House at the University of
Chicago.

By action of the Executive Committee
of the Academic Council, all classes sched
uled for 3 and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec.
18, will be dismissed so that students and
faculty may attend the annual Twelfth
Man Bowl Game.
Regalia for the Baccalaureate-
Commencement Exercise
All students who are candidates for the
degree of Doctor of Philosophy are re
quired to order hoods as well as doctor’s
cap and gown, and to leave the hoods
with the Registrar no later than 1 p.m.,
Tuesday, Jan. 15. The Ph.D. hoods will
not be worn in the procession since all such
candidates will be hooded on the stage.
Candidates for the Master’s Degree will
wear the master’s cap and gown; those
who both are candidates for the Bachelor’s
Degree, except military students, will wear
th% bachelor’s cap and gown. All military
students who are candidates for degrees
will wear the appropriate military uniform.
Rental of caps and gowns may be ar
ranged with the Exchange Store. Orders
may be placed between 8 a.m., Dec. 10,
and 12 noon, Saturday, Jan. 12. The ren
tal is as follows: doctor’s cap and gown
$4.25, master’s cap and gown $3.75, bach
elor’s cap and gown $3.25. Hood rental
is the same as that for cap and gown.

For Week-End Programs
A&M Church of Christ
Mont Whitson, minister, will
deliver a sermon on “How to Be
come a Christian” at the Sunday
morning service. His topic at the
evening preaching service will be
“Isaac, the Deterioration of a
Man.” Aggie and young people’s
class meets at 6:15 p.m. Sunday.
A&M Presbyterian Church
A “Thought for Christmas”
will be offered by the Rev. Nor
man Anderson at morning wor
ship services. Presbyterian Stu
dent League meets at 6:30 p.m.
Bethel Lutheran Church
The Rev. W. C. Peterson will
speak on “The Joy of a True
Christian” at the two morning ser
vices.

Special Music
“The Song of Christmas” by
Roy Ringwald will be presented by
the choir of the A&M Methodist
Church at 10:55 a.m. Sunday.
The 35-voice choir, under the
direction of William Turner, will
present four-part choral arrange
ments, interspersed with narration
of the birth of Jesus. ■
Soloists will be Coralyn Thur
man, soprano; Donald Royal, bar
itone; Caroline Wilson, soprano,
| and Jeanette Vance, soprano.
Accompanists will be Carl Moehl-
man, organist, and Mrs. Ross
Strader, pianist.
The Rev. Nolan Vance, pastor,
will be narrator, other “voices” to
be provided by Larry Leighton,
Coralyn Thurman and Donald
Royal.
The public is invited.
Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church
Adult confirmation will be con
ducted at the morning service.
Sermon topic of the Rev. Edwin
Svendsen will he “Confirmation by
Soul in God Control.” At 7 p.m.

At Holiday Parties
Some 200 children of the Mac
edonia Baptist Church at Millican
and of the Bethel Grove Baptist
Church at Cawthon will be enter
tained this evening at Chi-istmas
parties given by the Baptist Stu
dent Union missions committee.
The committee is led by Skip
per Connor, junior pre-medical
student at A&M, who has been as
sisted by Max Barnett, A1 Meyer
and Bob Brack.
The parties will feature group
games and refreshments, climaxed
by a visit from Santa Claus, who
will have a gift for each child pre
sent. The gifts, as well as re
freshments of fruit and nuts, have
been contributed by various busi
ness houses in Bryan and College
Station.
Assisting the committee in
preparation for the party have
been the young people of Emman
uel Baptist Church, who will dec
orate the church and provide re
freshments.
This affair climaxes several
months of work with the children
in weekly Friday night Bible
schools at these two rural chur
ches, Connor said.

at the church. Aggies will be
picked up at the designated sta
tions between 6:30 and 6:45. Re
freshments will be served.
St. Mary’s Catholic Chapel
Masses will be said at 7, 8:30,
and 10 a.m. Sunday, with coffee
and doughnuts to be served fol
lowing the 8:30 Mass. Saturday
Mass is at 6:30 a.m., and confes
sions are heard from 6:30 to 7:30
p.rp.

area children. In addition to the visit from St. Nick,
