Bates, assistant to the director of student work for the department of religious edu cation of the United Christian Missionary Society, will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the YMCA with campus religious workers and stu dents interested in attending the Ecumenical Student Conference Dec. 27-Jan. 1 at Oklahoma A&M College. Study subject for the confer ence will be “Being the People of God.” A&M students already regis tered are Burt Atcheson, Bill Ash- burn, Frank Clark and Zilmar Marcos. Chaplains attending are the Rev. Roger Cilley, Episcopal; the Rev. Charles Hall, Methodist; and the Rev. Charles Workman, Presbyterian. Mr. Bates, in his position with the United Christian Missionary Society, serves Disciples Student Fellowships at universities and colleges throughout the United States and Canada. The society is an international board administering Christian edu cation and missions carried on co operatively among churches of Disciples of Christ. From offices Robert S. Bates in Indianapolis, it serves over 7,100 churches in North America, missions in the United States and 11 other countries, and some 125 Disciples Student Fellowships. Mr. Bates, born in Shanghai, China, is a son of missionary par ents. He received an A.B. degree at Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio, and a B.D. from Disciples Divin ity House at the University of Chicago.
