All wives of mechanical engineering majors are invited. * * * Husbands and children of mem bers of the Chemical Engineering Wives Club will be entertained at a Christmas party from 3 to p.m. Sunday at Cashion Cabin at Hensel Park. Instead of a gift exchange, the club plans this year to make up a basket for a needy family. Each adult attending Sun day’s party is asked to bring one can of food for the project. It is hoped that everyone will be pre sent for the festivities. And Mrs, Walts Entertain Poetry Society At Yule Pinner fftCY As has been the tradition for I many years, members and guests of the Bryan-College Station Po etry Society gathered recently at the Bryan home of the Rev. and Mrs. Gordon Watts for their an nual Christmas dinner. Decorations throughout the lovely colonial home were inspired by the yuletide season, and the table where the turkey dinner was spread, buffet style, was covered with a white damask clotji. The centerpiece of tall white candles were set in a garland-like arrangement of little white and red chrysanthemums. Guests were seated at small tables set with white linen cloths and centered with small white and red mums. Those attending, in addition to the host and hostess, were Dr. and Mrs. John Q. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McNeill Drumwright, Mr. and Mi’s. L. V. Hanna, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hudson, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Jaynes, Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Nance, Mr. and Mrs. Vic Lindley, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Crittenden, Mrs. Milton Franklin, Mrs. John Ashton, Miss Stella Stuart, Miss Elizabeth Wood and Dr. S. E. Asbury. After a brief business meeting, conducted by Mrs. Hudson, presi dent, Mrs. Drumwright, vice presi dent, introduced Mrs. Hanna, who read “Keeping Christmas” from “The Spirit of Christmas,” by Henry Vandyke. Absent members were remembered by everyone signing cards of greeting to be sent to Mrs. F. H. Thomas in Peru and Mrs. J. H. Caddess in Pakistan. Mrs. Franklin then read the poems presented, some on Christ mas, others on general subjects, and Vic Lindley, critic for the evening, gave many useful pointers on the works submitted. In judging the Christmas poems, Mr. Lindley ranked “Christmas Shopping List” by Jessie Merle Franklin, first; “Christmas Mys tery” by Elizabeth Wood, second; ‘The Meaning of Christmas” by Mabel Clare Thomas, third. In the general subjects category, he awarded first place to “Portrait of Courage” by Eleanor Nance; second, “Visits” by Jessie Merle Franklin; third, “Butterfingers 2-2222” by John Q. Anderson; fourth, “Night Wind” by Charles Drumwright. Popular vote for the Christmas poems ranked the top three as “The Meaning of Christmas,” “Christmas Mystery,” and “Christ mas Shopping List.” In the general category “Night Wind” was voted first, with “Visits” and “When I of Beauty Speak” by Mrs. John Q. Anderson placed second and third. The enjoyable evening closed with group singing of Christmas carols, with Miss Sara Watts at the piano. It's Jarman week at W.S.D. W.S.D CLOTHIERS Study Group Has Christmas Tea Campus Study Club held its an nual Christmas tea Tuesday after noon at the home of Mrs. A. M. Sorenson. Receiving with Mrs. Sorenson was the club president, Mrs. Bardin H. Nelson, and Mrs. C. W. Crawford. The house was decorated in a Christmas motif of red and green, from the huge red bow on the lamp post at the street and the gay wreath and Santa Claus on the front door to the festive red can dle surrounded by a holly wreath on the kitchen table. At one end of the living room was a colorful Christmas tine and at the other was the tea table cov ered with a bright red cloth and centered with an arrangement of green foliage, red and green balls and a large white candle.
