HOURS 1:30 Press Association Adopts 16 Bills AUSTIN, (A>) —, The legislative committee of the Texas Press Assn, has adopted 16 “good govem- ment” hills designed to prevent re currences of state scandals such as the veterans land debacle of 1955. dflie proposed legislation will be submitted to the 55th Legislature. The committee yesterday voted to adopt the measure as legislative “musts” and to seek the active backing of publishers and editors in working for final passage. One bill would make it unlawful for governmental bodies to hold closed meetings and would provide for the removal from office of public officials violating the acts. It also would provide a $1,000 fine. In the insurance field, the com mittee recommended legislation empowering the Insurance Com mission to require companies do ing business in Texas to make and publish a statement of financial condition at least twice a year. Another would make it a felony for any insurance officer to file a false statement. Another preposal, an outgrowth of the Duval County situation, would make it unlawful to take any public record “ . . . with intent to destroy, suppress, alter, or con ceal. . . ” Most of the legislation was framed by members of the attor ney general’s office. James Gaffney, commander of Sqd. 6 during the 1954-55 term had the original idea. The pa;rty was given to the second and third grades last year, with approximate ly 60 children and their parents attending. Nuclear Physicist Dr. T. A. Welton, Nuclear Phy sicist of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, will give a lecture on High Energy Cyclotrons, tomorrow at 7:30 p. m. in the new Physics lecture room. The two Aggies were candidates for the title of “Mr. Teacher of Tomorrow” in a contest that saw a “Mr. and Miss Teacher of To morrow” selected from students representing colleges in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. deMarrais was a finalist in the event. Attending the proceedings as observers were Jerry Coleman, Gene McMichael, Richard Talley, and Dale West, Physical Education majors. The group was accom panied by J. L.
