Pretty Wrappings Will Add Charm To Yule Presents AP Newsfeatures Gift wrappings may be conver sation pieces. A pretty one may go a long way in stretching the im portance of a gift. A fluffy ribbon bow atop a package or a gift wrap that is especially suitable to the contents of the package may be more fun than the gift itself. A real intriguing gift wrap for young girls is an angelic one that is charming and simple to make. Wrap the box in black or char coal gray paper and secure with cellophane tape. Pleat a piece of pink construction paper into 3-inch folds and cut angel shapes. Use an angel pic ture as a pattern. When unfold ed, you have a strip of six angels holding hands. The wings are cut separately and taped to the back of each angel. Now place them in a semi-circle on top of the box and hold them in place with clear tape. Tiny birthday candles are taped to each angel’s hand for an extra touch. Fluffs of cotton are taped here and there to form floating clouds. There are a variety of other shapes you could cut from folded paper in similar fashion: a row of triangular trees, studded with sequins; gingerbread ladies or snowmen decorated with holiday tape. Almost any Christmas motif will lend itself. Skaters may lend a festive note if you find just the right pattern. Experiment with your design usin& newspaper until you get just the right one. Then cut it on the good paper. Use Christmas ornaments, flowers, glitter and other inexpen sive items to add glamor and in dividuality to your beribboned packages. A red rosebud taped to each ribbon loop may give a special look. Another cute idea is to dye cot ton swabs gay colors and make pinwheel designs. Dye the cotton tips red or green and sprinkle them with glitter. Fasten to your package with cellophane tape. You may also spell out the person’s name with these little cotton tips if you are decorating a large pack age. HUNGARIAN GOULASH 1 pound hamburger salt, pepper, garlic 3 large fresh green onions, powder to taste chopped fine 2 small cans tomato Vz green bell pepper, chopped sauce Brown onions, green pepper and meat, and then add salt, pepper and garlic powder. When this is blended, pour in tomato sauce and then add water (about l 1 /^ cups) till mixture is a little thicker than soup. Simmer for about 45 minutes. Serve over boiled rice. This, with a green salad and hot bread, makes a complete meal. QUICK AND EASY CHOCOLATE COOKIES 1 package brownie mix 1 cup chopped nuts Vz cup plus 1 tablespoon water Combine all ingredients, and drop from spoon onto well-greased cookie sheet. Bake about 12 minutes in 350-degree oven. Let cool a few minutes before removing to cookie jar. FUDGE PIE 4 unbeaten eggs 2 cups sugar 1 stick of butter, or 1 cup % cup cocoa Beat eggs and sugar together till fluffy. While this is being done, melt butter with cocoa in double boiler. Then pour melted butter mix ture in with eggs and sugar, beating steadily. Chopped nuts may be added if desired. Pour the whole mixture into an unbaked pie shell and bake in 350-degree oven until crust is delicately browned. If more than stick of butter is used, cocoa should be increased accordingly. GREEN PEA SALAD 1 can green peas, drained % chopped pimentoes % cup mayonnaise x /± cup chopped scallions 2 tablespoons prepared mustard Mix all ingredients together and chill. Serve on a lettuce leaf as a salad, or use as a vegetable. MULLIGAN STEW 1 pound lean stew meat 3 medium potatoes, sliced salt, pepper 3 large carrots, sliced 1 bay leaf 1 small can green, peas, 1 big onion, chopped fine drained Dredge meat, after it has been salted and peppered. Then brown slowly in butter. When browned, add bay leaf and vegetables, and cover with water. Add salt to taste. Cook this mixture until all vegetables are tender. When you are ready to serve, add a very little thickening of flour and water, if a thicker soup is desired. This is even better the second day than when first cooked.
