Page 4 THE BATTALION Wednesday, March 21, 1956 Go to Madisonville Today Feldman Pitches Tigers to 7-0 Win By MAURICE OLIAN CHS Sports Correspondent Looking for win number three of the young season, A&M Con solidated’s baseball Tigers move into Madisonvill* today after bet tering their record with an easy, 7-0, victory over the Huntsville Hornets Tuesday on Tiger Field. The Tigers want a victory to day in this return engagement, having lost a tough one to the Mustang crew Monday, 9-6, when Madisonville picked up five runs on only one hit in the sixth. Edgar Feldman hurled magnifi cent baseball against the Class AA Huntsville team, giving up only two hits and striking out nine while going the distance. Feldman was never in serious trouble, walking seven in the seven innings he work ed. Centerfielder Bill Kavanaugh opened the third with a free pass to first, moved to second when Al ton Arnold walked and came home on Bobby Witcher’s clean single. Catcher Steadman Davis blasted a long double, scoring Arnold and Witcher and rode home when Man uel Garcia stroked a one-base blow. The Tigers picked up two more in the fourth when, after Dick Hickman got on hit by the pitcher, Feldman singled, Kavanaugh walk ed, loading the bases, and Carroll drove Hickman and Feldman home. Feldman pushed his own cause in the sixth, opening with a two- base blow. He scored a minute later when Jack McNeely singled cleanly to left, ending the scoring. Either Bobby Potts or Arnold will open on the mound for Coach Edsel Jones’ Tigers today. Loyd, Cub Scout executive for the Arrowmoon Dis trict, Boy Scouts of America. “Meetings will be held each Mon day night during April,” Loyd said. “Fees will be 25 cents per meeting, »r $1 for the five sessions.” . Meetings Will be open to all per sons interested in any kind of scouting work, Loyd said. Anyone with previous scouting experience who would like to help teach the course should contact Joe Faulk, director for the course, at his office in Bryan. “We also want to invite espe cially each man and woman who wishes to become a den-mother or a cub master to participate,” he said. “A certificate of completion stating that the student is a fully qualified leader will be issued to those who complete the course.” Subjects for the meetings include “Den Meetings,” “Program Plan ning,” “Pack Meetings,” “The Achievement Program” and, meet ing in separate sessions on the same night, “Pack Administration” for the men, and “Den-Mother, Den-Chief Relations” for the wom en. Ag Bowlers Out To A&M Flying Club Regain Meet Title T " Hoping to re-establish their ten pin domination that was broken last season by Oklahoma A&M, the Aggie bowlers host the fifth annual intercollegiate bowling tourney here Saturday and Sun day. Rolling for A&M will be Bill Smith, John Redden, Clay McFar land, Ken Savage and Floyd Hard- iman on the first team with Joe Blieden, Fred McDonald, A1 Mc Clellan, Fred Hazlewood and Bob Schverak on the second. Rice, Texas, Houston, Oklahoma A&M, San Antonio Junior College, St. Thomas, St. Marys and Trinity will compete. A&M took the first three championships, beginning in 1951. Members of the “Flying Kadets,” A&M flying club, will perform an exhibition parachute jump at the National Intercollegiate Flying As sociation’s annual flying contest to be held in Norman, Okla. early in May. Approximately 15 colleges and universities are entered in the con test, sponsored by the University of Oklahoma. The A&M group plans to enter the power-on and power-off accu racy landing, bomb dropping, and short field landing events, accord ing to Edward E. Rivers Jr., presi dent. The local club will begin making practice jumps sometime in the next two or three weeks. Hi-Five Combo Second In Show The Hi-Five Combo from A&M won second place and $35 at the Sam Houston StateriTeachers Col lege Intercollegiate Talent Show Friday in Huntsville. The show was sponsored by the Eclectics,' a'-SHSTC girls sorority. There were 12 acts in the show with most of th^s, Southwest Con ference schools’’ represented.
