Fears again mounted over possibility of general Arab-Israeli warfare. Is raeli officials ' said the plane was machine-gunned while flying over its own territory in upper Galilee. They said the pilot was wounded and the plane made an emergency landing on the Israeli side. ★ ★ ★ AUSTIN —Texas school dis tricts will get $3 more a student than originally expected from the available school fund as the State Board of Education yes terday set the per-student fig ure at $76. ★ ★ ★ LONDON—An angry Prime Min ister Eden yesterday recalled the top British officers of Jordan’s Arab Legion. The sharp action was taken because the Foreign Office has concluded for the first time that the danger of aggression arises from the Arab side in the Middle East dispute with Israel. The implications in the thinking of the Foreign Office, reflected in the decision to withdraw the top British officers, could be far-reach ing. It could mean the British will no longer use their influence against a flow of defensive weap ons to Israel. ★ ★ ★ WASHINGTON — The Penta gon disclosed last night that top American military chiefs have flown to a secluded spot in Puerto Rico to talk over prob lems of the nation’s defense. They will take a long look at the nation’s defenses, it was said, and try also to frame answers for other current and near future problems posed by developments around the world. For the past three years Mann has been chosen as the most beau tiful gospel singer in America and was flown to our- troops through out the world during the last war as an entertainer. Bishop Paul Martin will be in the pulpit for the services. Bishop Martin was elevated to the office of Bishop while serving as Pastor of First Methodist Church, Wichita Falls, Texas. These men" Will conduct Revival services at 10 a.m. and 7:30 pan. daily throughout the week. Plans Made For Pet. E Banquet The Petroleum Engineering Department’s annual Awards Banquet will be held Friday, Mar. 9, at 6:30 p. m. in the ballroom of the MSC. Jeff Montgomery, a petroleum engineering graduate, class of ’41, will be principal speaker and talk on “Opportunities for Engineers”. He is an official of the Murmanill Corporation of Dallas. Awards will he pi-esented to stu dents currently completing senior and junior courses in petroleum en gineering. The recipients are se lected by the faculty of the Petrol eum Engineering Department, con sidering academic pi’oficiency and overall achievement in college ac tivities. Four scholarships will be award ed to seniors, ranging from $500 to $750. Two $125 gold watches will be presented- to the outstand ing petroleum engineering senior and the senior making the most im provement in scholarship during his senior year. Two scholarships, one of $500 and one of $400 plus tuition to a maximum of $500, will be present ed to junior petroleum engineer students. Awards of petroleum en gineering handbooks will be made to several outstanding junior stu dents. PR Representative Speaks Tomorrow Ralph L. Lewis Jr., Gulf Oil Company public relatb ns represen tative, will speak on various public relations problems tomorrow night at 7:30 in the Memorial Student Center assembly room. The speech will be open to the public and should be of particular interest to industrial technology, industrial engineering, personnel administration and journalism stu dents. Lewis will talk about fac tors that must be considered by a company before starting a public relations program.
