The play came on a fake field goal try from the mid-field stripe. An earlier pass to Howie set A-FA up on the AAA 5-yard line and Harris plowed over the first tally. This brought the artillery team within a point of A-AAA’s John Polk-led gridders who also used the air route for their single scoi’e. Speedy Maivin Chlapek darted in the open and grabbed a 40-yard aerial from Harris to send A-FA ahead 13-7. Bob Cook kicked the extra point. Center Gene Jameson’s defensive play sparked the team’s hard-hitting line. Jerry Cobb and Gerry Griffin led deceptive Sqd. 18 team to a thumping 13-0 victory over Sqd. 5.
