Page 4 THE BATTALION Thursday,- October 6, 1955 At Christoval High Pardee Was Star In 6-Man Football By BARRY HART Battalion Sports Writer Jack Pardee, the Southwest Conference’s fourth leading ground gainer at present, never played in an 11-man football game until his freshman year at A&M. In fact, the bulldozing Aggie fullback holds the distinc tion of being the only man in the conference to come out of six-man high school competition. At tiny Christoval high school Jack lettered four times in both football and bas ketball and once in track. In his senior year Pardee scored 42 points in the all-state six-man game. As a freshman Pardee developed so rapidly that he won the starting fullback job, and led the 1953 Fish ground gainers with 325 yards on 7.6 attempts for a 4.3 yard-per-car- ry average. An outstanding block er and tackier, he scored one touch down and kicked the extra point that beat the Texas Shorthorns, 14-13, at Austin. Despite the fact that he was han dicapped last fall by playing three positions—end, fullback and half back—and was injured in the Bay lor game, Pardee participated in 637 plays, placing him third be hind Lloyd Hale and Gene Stal lings in that department among returning lettermen this fall. Jack gained 92 yards rushing on 34 car ries and caught three passes for 36 yards in 1954. Bryant Praises Pardee So far in 1955 the 292-pound jun ior has been coach Paul (Bear) Bryant’s number one fullback. “Jack has definitely improved all around,” said Bryant. “He’s far nut in front of our other full- lacks.” “In all three games Par- iee has played well,” he added. Jack stands fourth behind TCU’s. Jim Swink, Henry Moore of Ar kansas; and teammate John Crow in the SWC rushing department with 169 yards in 24 tries for a 7-yard average. Only one time has he been thrown for a loss—that by the University of Houston for one yard. Greatest Game Pardee played his greatest var sity game against LSU this year when he rumbled 91 yards in 8 stabs at the line. “Pardee was outstanding for us, among others, in the LSU game,” said Bryant. Aggie fans all over the nation will be watching and hoping to see big number 32 crash through the line, cut for the sideline and head toward pay dirt this season as Jack Pardee carves a name for himself in the annals of A&M football.
